Habit # 1 The Easy Way To Get Dressed To Shoes!

Exercise Days

Some may wonder, what are FLYing clothes?  It is simple.  It is something you feel comfortable in wearing while you are FLYing. The purpose is to get you out of your pajamas that tells your mind to slumber rather than FLY.  So what I am going to do is give you some pictures of FLYing clothes that I have worn.

Your FLYing Clothes Are Determined By What You Are Doing For That Particular Day.

For example:   I am putting exercise into my FLYing at least 3 times a week.  They are not old worn out sweats.  I have 3 workout outfits that I wear that includes jackets.  Nothing fancy. Each piece from Walmart $10.00 a piece.  I layer with a sports bra and top with thin straps.  If I need to run to the store that is only 11 miles away, I can easily do it wearing the outfit.  I can also clean/FLY in it.  So now I know what 3 out of 7 outfits I am wearing for the week.
Errand Day
One day is Errand Day.  I usually wear nice jeans and a nice top.  One day is Renew Your Spirit Day and I wear a nice pair of slacks and top to church.  This leaves me with 2 days left.  What do I wear? I wear clothes that I feel comfortable in.  For me it is side elastic jeans and a top or a sports bra and top with skinny straps with a jacket over it.  That completes 7 days for me.  If there is something I am working on that I am afraid I might stain a top, I pull out my work shirt to cover any spills.  I also have an apron I will put on if I think I will get dirty.

Renew Your Spirit Day
In A Nutshell, FLYing Clothes Are The Ones In Between Your Good Clothes And Your Grunge Clothes.  It Is The Type Of Clothing That You Won’t Feel Bad Wearing When An Old Friend Shows Up At Your Door Or Running To The Store Quick To Pick Something Up And You Run Into An Old Boyfriend.  You Have To Keep One Set Of Grunge Clothes For Certain Jobs.  I Call Them My Painting Clothes.  They Aren’t Super Grungy.  They Have Paint On Them Because I Am Painting.
Apron To Protect Your Clothes
I hope this explains what FLYing Clothes are.  I had a problem at first and if you notice in any of my Individual Photos when I was doing the challenge “Getting Dressed To Shoes, Hair and Makeup”  It was tops and bottoms with a shirt.  It is as simple as this.  So please take a chance on the FLYing side and get out of your pajamas and “Get Dressed To Shoes!”

Can’t Get Motivated? Here’s A Tip That Will Work!

You know the days. They are the ones where you have so many things to do and yet become frozen in your tracks. So what do you do?

Take Out The Trash!

That’s right! Take out the trash! The first 2 minutes of starting something is the hardest. Why not do a task that doesn’t include much thinking.

The number 1 problem today is Information Overload.    It gets to the point where it makes one counter productive. Who hasn’t experienced surfing on the internet and 5 hours later none of the things you wanted to get done have even been started. Do this a couple of times and then we get into the next level, the Snowball Effect.

In order to snap out of this we have to break away from the computer or the television and simply move. The easiest way is to take out the trash.

Taking out the trash symbolizes that we must get the old out before we can deal with the new. It also gives us a chance to get some fresh air that allows ‘Positive Energy’ to begin to ‘Flow’ again. In other words, it is another way to Dance Till You FLY!

Chemo This Morning, Garth Tonight Enjoying ‘The Dance’

Every once in awhile something will grab my attention and suck me in from something shared on Facebook.

The performance of Garth Brooks in Minneapolis Friday night, November 7th did just that.

He is performing the song ‘The Dance’, sees a sign in the crowd that says: CHEMO THIS MORNING, GARTH TONIGHT, ENJOYING THE DANCE.

He seeks out the woman from Iowa serenading her while performing the song. He then gives his guitar to this woman, gets back up on stage and listen to what he has to say.

Garth lost both his mother and sister to Cancer. The love he showed for this woman who also brought her 19 year old daughter proves the passion he has in the fight against Cancer.

What drew me to this at first? Garth. Second performing the song ‘The Dance’ and third the power of HUMAN SPIRIT.

I’m just enjoying ‘The Dance’.

It’s Monday Again!

I have to tell you, so far the month of September has been stressful for me. I was dealing with an ill dog companion that resulted in his passing. I am working on a blog to share my experience in hopes it will help others. Look for it in the middle of the week.

It’s Monday Again!

How did Monday come so fast? Yesterday I buried my Maltese dog named Fred. What will the coming week bring? I suspect more grieving with some feelings of peace by the end of the week.

Today is Merengue Planning Day for ‘Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System. How involved does the planning have to entail? It is totally up to you. I know my planning from week to week fluctuates depending on how many activities I have.

I am not asking to write down every detailed item today that you plan to do this week. Merengue Planning Day is more a day to decide what is in the following form.

A form to help you plan your week.
A form to help you plan your week.

Use this form to ‘Map Out Your Week’. Scratch notes on it. Use it as a worksheet that you can refer to for the coming week.

The following describes how Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System (c) 2014 has three levels with level one being the most important. It is based on levels where the first one needs to be done before you move to the next. Some weeks you may only be able to do the first level. That is okay. You are moving forward. That is all any of us can ask for and commit to. Establishing the first level of the system makes it so much easier to move on to the next. The following are the 3 levels to Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System (c) 2014.

Not so bad when it is laid out this way is it? Born Organized would have figured this out almost immediately. They know how to set up a structure. Most of us don’t.

We tend to be the SHE’s of the group. Now there is nothing wrong with being a SHE. We just have to learn how to plan what works better for us.

I give you suggestions to the order of the 9’s. You can take these 9 habits and put them in a different order. Just make sure you give it your best shot each day to do all 9. Once you are comfortable with them will come the weekly habits for specific days. Again, you choose the days for each of the habits that will work best for you. I simply give you a suggestion.

9habitsnameform

The second level is ‘Weekly Zone Events’. Our homes have five zones where we spend a week on a specific zone for a specific week of the month. It is the ‘Maintenance Level’ of the system.

The third level is your ‘Seasonal Monthly Events’ where some of them will be bi-annual. When you have the first 2 levels scheduled for your day, this level will be do what you can. Something is always better than nothing.

The 3rd level is really for the group to come together and make each other accountable. I selected the events for certain times of the year that we would get the most mileage and make sense.

Tuesday is ‘Freestyle Day’. I wanted to get this post to you earlier for Monday. Since it is later, I will give you Tuesday’s weekly habit form to follow as a guide.

Freestyle Day Weekly Habits Form
Freestyle Day Weekly Habits Form

While I am at it I will give you Wednesday’s ‘Anti Dilly Dally Day’ form you can use to make notes.

I hope I have explained how Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System (c) 2014  works. There are many other systems that are in greater detail. Most of them are for ‘Born Organized’ and not ‘Sidetracked Home Executive’ like we are. Will I ever be ‘Born Organized’? No and frankly I wouldn’t want to. That is a personal choice. I spent way too many years trying to be something I am not.

If you have trouble staying with a system I invite you to try Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System (c) 2014 and see if it will work for you!

The First Cha Of The Great Declutter Your Clothes, Your Closet and Cha Cha Cha! Event

Today is Day 9 of The Great Declutter Your Clothes, Your Closet and Cha Cha Cha! Event held in Marilyn’s Way Group.  For the first 9 days I asked everyone to go through their clothes and closet to find things that can be thrown away.  Some of the items can be:

  • Socks without a partner
  • Soiled and Holey Clothes Beyond Repair
  • Tags You Took Off A Garment You Bought That Never Made It To The Trash
  • All The Things You Empty From Your Pockets That Needed To Be Thrown Away.
  • Old Magazines
  • Expired Medication In Your Bedside Table
  • Empty Boxes In The Closet That Need To Be Tossed Out

As you can see, all of the above take up space making it difficult to ‘Get Dressed To Shoes’ each day as Habit 1 of Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System. It happens to the best of us by simply thinking we don’t have time to throw it away or get stuck into indecision.

If you are having a difficult time decluttering your clothes, your closet and cha cha cha’ing start with the Throw Away part of the Cha Cha Cha!  Just seeing some space in your closet will give you the incentive to do the second part of cha cha cha! and that will be the Give Away pile.

Get a trash bag and set your timer for 15 minutes tossing away all the unnecessaries that have found their way into this area.  You will be surprised at what you can do!  It is ‘Just 15 Minutes’!  Go for it!

Get Up Close And Personal With Marilyn’s Way 9 Habits!

When I named my blog and facebook page Marilyn’s Way To Organization For Home And Garden and calling it Marilyn’s Way for short, it has always meant for you to find ‘Your Way’.  I simply give you a guide of 9 habits that everyone should do each day to get from day to day smoothly.  How you do it is totally up to you!

You see the 9 habits are the foundation in which you can build upon and personalize for yourself.  When I was searching for a way to get rid of my CHAOS and clutter I kept failing because I was trying to do it their way.

The one thing I did learn was practicing a specific habit until it becomes natural.  I did just that when I took the personal challenge of Flylady’s March Habit Getting Dressed To Shoe, Hair, Makeup and posting a daily photo and mini blog for 436 consecutive days.  I was a pajama junkie of 5 years and needed to change if I was to have any chance of getting rid of CHAOS and clutter.

I have a few things stacked up against me to complete this.  I suffer from Major Depressive Disorder or Clinical Depression, FibromyalgiaAdult Attention Deficit DisorderSevere Sleep Apnea, Cycolthymic or Mild Bipolar Disorder, and Hypothyroidism.

After looking at my list you may wonder, why even get out of bed?  I tried that.  I felt worse.  Then I went through a period of staying up for 2 days just so I could do everything that most organizational systems ask of you because it takes longer with some tasks for me than most. How did that work you may wonder?  It didn’t.

9habitsnameform9 Habits

That is when Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System was born featuring 9 habits to do each day that will assist in getting you out of CHAOS and clutter so you may take care of yourself, your family and your home.  It doesn’t matter how you do any of the habits.  You do them however they will work for you.

Why are the 9 Habits Successful?

Because you come to realize that they are the foundation and must be done each day to keep the status quo.  Eventually you find your own rhythm to Dance Till You FLY!  From there, you can personalize it even more by practicing a set of ‘Weekly Habits’ for a specific day of your choice.  I chose to name them in dance style terms to make it fun. The third part are the ‘Zones’ that are actually Monthly Habits for a specific zone or room for one week of the month.

What About All The Rest?

If you become consistent with the 9 Habits, the Weekly Habits and the zones the rest will take care of itself.  How may you ask?  Because they become so automatic that they free up your time to do seasonal projects or extra decluttering when you can.  Just like our body’s foundation is the skeletal part of our body so are the 3 parts to Marilyn’s Dance Till You FLY! System.

Get up close and personal to Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System keeping it simple to work for you and your way.  I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of living to do and I don’t want to spend my every waking moment cleaning.

If you like what you read and feel it may help others, please SHARE.  I did all the hard parts of this by trying different ways until I came up with these to focus on.  Upon deciding them I took every type of lifestyle into consideration.  From there I invite you to get up close and personal and tweak the system to work for you!

Launch Pad Ready!

Some have started school already but most will be starting this coming week.  One of the 9 habits of Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! is to always have your ‘Launch Pad Ready’.

What Is A Launch Pad?

A launch pad can be as simple as knowing where your keys are to having a command center, hooks for coats, book bags, and a clearing for whatever else needs to be ready for the coming day.

launch pad ready 002blogThis is my ‘Launch Pad’ for today.  A launch pad can also be a way to focus on what is important to get done for the day as well.  I am a gardener and it is ‘Canning Season’.  To some it may look like a cluttered mess.  To me it means I must allot time in my day to put away the beans that have already been canned, freeze the sugar snap peas, make room in the refrigerator for the cucumbers and the zuchinni and start snapping green beans to get ready to can again.

launch pad doctorSomeone that works away from the home’s launch pad will consist of a purse, keys, briefcase, lunch, any returns or donation bags that can be done on the way home from work.

school launchpad2Yet a home that has school aged children will consist of keys, purse, book bags, coats, lunches, projects to take to school.

Whatever your plans are for the next day, create a ‘Launch Pad Ready’ area in your home.  It can be as simple as ‘Where are your keys?’ to lining everything up that you plan to do so you can get an early start on the projects and ‘Dance Till You FLY!’

Hosting A Birthday Party! Cha Cha Cha!

Tomorrow I am hosting a birthday party for a friend of mine’s baby girl ‘Sarah Mae’ who turns 1 year old!  If you have been following me for some time, Beth, (Sarah’s Mommy)is one of the girls I began mentoring when she and Jenna (our other friend) were 14 years old.  Today both girls are 19 and Beth has a darling little girl who turns 1 year old tomorrow.  It seemed fitting that I host a birthday party at my home since my home has always been a place where we have had so much fun before by having fun parties.

It will be a simple birthday party.  I am going to try to find some things around my home to decorate.  The idea is to be creative.  But first…

A Weekly Home Mambo!

What is it?  It is focusing on 7 tasks that can get your home in the party mode!  Block off a time of an hour and a half dedicated for it.  Some of the tasks take no time at all and others will take an hour like washing your sheets.  If you have an extra set it is even better!  The following is the list.

How To Brain Dump So That You Can ‘Dance Till You FLY! mw

The title of this blog sounds rather strange.  Please bear with me and see this through.  I promise you will be glad that you did.  First I am going to talk about what ‘Brain Dump’ is and then how you can apply this to ‘Dance Till You FLY! mw System (c) 2014 influenced  by Flylady and born from Marilyn’s Way that is a page and a group to organization for home and garden.  I have been using this technique long before I knew it had an actual name.

What Is A Brain Dump?
It is simply taking all the things that are floating around that overstuffed brain of yours and dump these thoughts on to paper with a pen.  Sure, you can type it into your computer but most find it is note as effective.  There have been times in my life that I have felt so overwhelmed that I was paralized.  The only way I was going to be able to move forward was to pull out my notebook that I can dump thoughts of things I had to do, thoughts of outcomes not yet finalized, thoughts of things I would like to do.  This notebook is for my purposes only.  It doesn’t have to mean anything to anyone else.  How you get your thoughts out of your brain and on to paper is your way.  Some of it can be doodling, some can be bullets of thoughts.  Some can be best explained by writing a story about it.

How Can It Help You To ‘Dance Till You FLY! mw?
I have been wanting to answer this question for you for quite some time.  I just didn’t know how my suggestion would be perceived and if I could create enough excitement for you to give this a try when it comes to taking care of yourself and your home.  First, I want you to throw perfectionism and procrastination right out the door.  They are not welcomed when it come so to doing a ‘Brain Dump’.  Now I want you to take your notebook and pen and just start dumping all of the thoughts you have in your head and on to paper in this notebook.  Set the timer for 15 minutes.  When the fifteen minutes are up, that’s it.  None of what you just wrote has to make any sense to anyone but you and sometimes there are a few things that don’t make sense to you during this session but in due time.  Those are called ‘aha moments’.  Be aware of how you feel after you have done a 15 minute Brain Dump.  I will be doing one when I finish this blog because I have so much on my mind that I find I am becoming to feel paralyzed and I want to dance till I fly!

I think this is enough information for you to get started.  The next blog will be about what to do about all this information that just came out of your brain and on to the paper of your notebook.  All of those thoughts have homes and I will show you where to put them.  For now, get your timer, set it for 15 minutes and just start dumping everything you have in your brain and put it in your magical notebook because that is what it is going to become.  We will be doing more than just one brain dump.  Some feel the need to do it daily for awhile, then weekly, monthly and finally quarterly.  By getting these thoughts out of your brain you can focus on the nine habits each day every day as your foundation or core to ‘Dance Till You FLY! mw System (c) 2014 and know that all of your other thoughts are in that magical notebook of yours just waiting to be ready for the next dance step of your thoughts!
