Habit # 1 The Easy Way To Get Dressed To Shoes!

Exercise Days

*Part of a 10 week series. To get involved join the Facebook group Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System To Remove Clutter & CHAOS

Some may wonder, what are FLYing clothes?  It is simple.  It is something you feel comfortable in wearing while you are FLYing. The purpose is to get you out of your pajamas that tells your mind to slumber rather than FLY.  So what I am going to do is give you some pictures of FLYing clothes that I have worn.

Your FLYing Clothes Are Determined By What You Are Doing For That Particular Day.

For example:   I am putting exercise into my FLYing at least 3 times a week.  They are not old worn out sweats.  I have 3 workout outfits that I wear that includes jackets.  Nothing fancy. Each piece from Walmart $10.00 a piece.  I layer with a sports bra and top with thin straps.  If I need to run to the store that is only 11 miles away, I can easily do it wearing the outfit.  I can also clean/FLY in it.  So now I know what 3 out of 7 outfits I am wearing for the week.
Errand Day
One day is Errand Day.  I usually wear nice jeans and a nice top.  One day is Renew Your Spirit Day and I wear a nice pair of slacks and top to church.  This leaves me with 2 days left.  What do I wear? I wear clothes that I feel comfortable in.  For me it is side elastic jeans and a top or a sports bra and top with skinny straps with a jacket over it.  That completes 7 days for me.  If there is something I am working on that I am afraid I might stain a top, I pull out my work shirt to cover any spills.  I also have an apron I will put on if I think I will get dirty.

Renew Your Spirit Day
In A Nutshell, FLYing Clothes Are The Ones In Between Your Good Clothes And Your Grunge Clothes.  It Is The Type Of Clothing That You Won’t Feel Bad Wearing When An Old Friend Shows Up At Your Door Or Running To The Store Quick To Pick Something Up And You Run Into An Old Boyfriend.  You Have To Keep One Set Of Grunge Clothes For Certain Jobs.  I Call Them My Painting Clothes.  They Aren’t Super Grungy.  They Have Paint On Them Because I Am Painting.
Apron To Protect Your Clothes
I hope this explains what FLYing Clothes are.  I had a problem at first and if you notice in any of my Individual Photos when I was doing the challenge “Getting Dressed To Shoes, Hair and Makeup”  It was tops and bottoms with a shirt.  It is as simple as this.  So please take a chance on the FLYing side and get out of your pajamas and “Get Dressed To Shoes!”

Do The 25 Scoop! And Cha Cha Cha!

When I created Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System (c) 2015  three requirements had to be part of the system.

           1.  SIMPLE

                    2.  EFFECTIVE

             3. DOABLE

In order for it to work it also had to be………

FUNmarilynsway

Many systems suggest ‘decluttering 15 minutes’ at a time. Have you ever set your timer and then froze wondering how to go about it? I KNOW I HAVE!!!

So much of our attitude sits between our 2 ears. We have to get creative in order for us to make this 1. Simple  2. Effective 3. Doable.

One of the ways I have learned to distract myself enough to get this part of taking care of yourself, your family and your home is to count the number of items. It doesn’t matter how big or how small they are. Just start counting. I chose the number of items to be 25 simply because that is the day of the month I was born. Nothing more.

What happens when the phone rings and a friend says, “I will be over to visit you in about 15 minutes”? Most of us will get a basket or tub, run through the house and begin to SCOOP things up. If we make our habits jive with our individuality our chances of sticking with it are great!

Take doing the 25 SCOOP a step further and………

Canning Green Beans

I have been fortunate to have a high yield with my green beans from the garden. I did plant a second crop thinking the first one would be gone but it still kept producing.

Time to pull out the pressure cooker again and see how many pints I can process. But first I must prepare the green beans. I start by snapping the ends off.

flowers lily and trixie canning green beans 028Lock the lid and place the weight where it says 10 pounds pressure. Begin timing when the weight begins to jiggle. Allow 20 minutes to pressure cook.

pressure cooker 001Remove from burner and allow to cool 30 – 45 minutes before removing the weight and opening the lid.

baking 009Remove the jars from the pressure cooker and allow to cool. Date them if you like. These green beans are going to taste mighty good in the depths of the coming winter. The greatest part is no jars cracked and nothing exploded! These are things that a perfectionist will be afraid of and procrastinate canning the green beans at all. I am glad I have learned Progress is more important than Perfection.

Garden Fresh Vegetable Soup

I love this time of year when I can throw together a fresh vegetable soup that come right out of my garden. I really don’t have a recipe. I just start chopping!

There is one thing I do different. In order to enhance the flavor of the soup, I like to dice up onions, peppers, garlic and celery and then saute them first in olive oil.

soup and trixie 001 Saute the onions, peppers, garlic and celery in olive oil.

It’s Monday Again!

I have to tell you, so far the month of September has been stressful for me. I was dealing with an ill dog companion that resulted in his passing. I am working on a blog to share my experience in hopes it will help others. Look for it in the middle of the week.

It’s Monday Again!

How did Monday come so fast? Yesterday I buried my Maltese dog named Fred. What will the coming week bring? I suspect more grieving with some feelings of peace by the end of the week.

Today is Merengue Planning Day for ‘Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System. How involved does the planning have to entail? It is totally up to you. I know my planning from week to week fluctuates depending on how many activities I have.

I am not asking to write down every detailed item today that you plan to do this week. Merengue Planning Day is more a day to decide what is in the following form.

A form to help you plan your week.
A form to help you plan your week.

Use this form to ‘Map Out Your Week’. Scratch notes on it. Use it as a worksheet that you can refer to for the coming week.

The following describes how Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System (c) 2014 has three levels with level one being the most important. It is based on levels where the first one needs to be done before you move to the next. Some weeks you may only be able to do the first level. That is okay. You are moving forward. That is all any of us can ask for and commit to. Establishing the first level of the system makes it so much easier to move on to the next. The following are the 3 levels to Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System (c) 2014.

3 Levels Of Marilyn's Way Dance Till You FLY! System

Not so bad when it is laid out this way is it? Born Organized would have figured this out almost immediately. They know how to set up a structure. Most of us don’t.

We tend to be the SHE’s of the group. Now there is nothing wrong with being a SHE. We just have to learn how to plan what works better for us.

I give you suggestions to the order of the 9’s. You can take these 9 habits and put them in a different order. Just make sure you give it your best shot each day to do all 9. Once you are comfortable with them will come the weekly habits for specific days. Again, you choose the days for each of the habits that will work best for you. I simply give you a suggestion.

9habitsnameform

The second level is ‘Weekly Zone Events’. Our homes have five zones where we spend a week on a specific zone for a specific week of the month. It is the ‘Maintenance Level’ of the system.

The third level is your ‘Seasonal Monthly Events’ where some of them will be bi-annual. When you have the first 2 levels scheduled for your day, this level will be do what you can. Something is always better than nothing.

The 3rd level is really for the group to come together and make each other accountable. I selected the events for certain times of the year that we would get the most mileage and make sense.

Tuesday is ‘Freestyle Day’. I wanted to get this post to you earlier for Monday. Since it is later, I will give you Tuesday’s weekly habit form to follow as a guide.

While I am at it I will give you Wednesday’s ‘Anti Dilly Dally Day’ form you can use to make notes.

Anti Dilly Dally Form

I hope I have explained how Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System (c) 2014  works. There are many other systems that are in greater detail. Most of them are for ‘Born Organized’ and not ‘Sidetracked Home Executive’ like we are. Will I ever be ‘Born Organized’? No and frankly I wouldn’t want to. That is a personal choice. I spent way too many years trying to be something I am not.

If you have trouble staying with a system I invite you to try Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System (c) 2014 and see if it will work for you!

The First Cha Of The Great Declutter Your Clothes, Your Closet and Cha Cha Cha! Event

Today is Day 9 of The Great Declutter Your Clothes, Your Closet and Cha Cha Cha! Event held in Marilyn’s Way Group.  For the first 9 days I asked everyone to go through their clothes and closet to find things that can be thrown away.  Some of the items can be:

  • Socks without a partner
  • Soiled and Holey Clothes Beyond Repair
  • Tags You Took Off A Garment You Bought That Never Made It To The Trash
  • All The Things You Empty From Your Pockets That Needed To Be Thrown Away.
  • Old Magazines
  • Expired Medication In Your Bedside Table
  • Empty Boxes In The Closet That Need To Be Tossed Out

As you can see, all of the above take up space making it difficult to ‘Get Dressed To Shoes’ each day as Habit 1 of Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System. It happens to the best of us by simply thinking we don’t have time to throw it away or get stuck into indecision.

If you are having a difficult time decluttering your clothes, your closet and cha cha cha’ing start with the Throw Away part of the Cha Cha Cha!  Just seeing some space in your closet will give you the incentive to do the second part of cha cha cha! and that will be the Give Away pile.

Get a trash bag and set your timer for 15 minutes tossing away all the unnecessaries that have found their way into this area.  You will be surprised at what you can do!  It is ‘Just 15 Minutes’!  Go for it!

It’s Great To Have Your Home Company Ready!

Martin Luther King Jr

The only thing that went wrong this morning before Direct TV showed up to do an upgrade is I wore my watch while taking a shower!  Luckily it is waterproof!

I am so happy I have gotten to the place where I can say my home is company ready and I am not having to constantly be apologizing for the mess OR staying up all night the day before to get my home in shape.

I bet you are wondering how I do it.  Over three years ago it wasn’t the case.  Dishes would be piled up and laundry backed up.  Lots of unopened mail stacked up.  So what is different?

I tried various systems on the internet that said you could get rid of clutter and have a clean house in X amount of days.  I would get started and none of them would work because it would be something different to do each day for 31 days.  By day 8 or 9 I would quit.

The closest I got into a system was Flylady.   She has a wealth of information.  Many have been successful with it.

Myself on the other hand could not do all of what Flylady asked because of being ADD and also having Fibromyalgia.  The combination takes up way too much energy to get through everything.

Do I decide to throw in the towel?  No.  I was still sick and tired of living among clutter and always having dirty dishes in the sink and smelly laundry in the wash.

I set out to find a way to have the basics done each day every day.  This is where Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! was born.  I read about the power of three.  It states the most a person can remember similtaneously is 3 things.  Our days are already broken into 3 routines.  They are Morning, Afternoon and Before Bedtime.  Easy enough to remember.

What if there were 3 habits for each routine that one practices each day every day that involve yourself, your family and your home?  Is this possible?  The answer is yes!

What if you began to practice a total of 9 habits each day as stated above and it allows you to gain free time?  Is that possible?  The answer is yes again!

Martin Luther King Jr
Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. -Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr has a quote “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”  So many times we as humans think we have to see the whole staircase before we can move forward.

My next question is this.  Is there any particular subject you can say you know everything there is to know about it?  If you are honest, you will say no.  Why?  Because as a human race we are constantly evolving.  It is one of our strong desires.

Mw Dance Till You FLY 9 Ha
Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! 9 Habits

Along with the 9 habits there are weekly habits for specific days to focus on.  I give you the habits, you decide the days!

Lastly, we focus on our homes one zone at a time each week.  There are a total of 5 zones.  This is where we declutter first and detail clean second.

In a nutshell there are 3 routines each day and 3 parts of the system with a built in 3 day/3 load limit that I will cover in the future.  Don’t worry.  It isn’t complicated.  It is just something I built into the system that gives one breathing room.

On Mondays I write about the system in the Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! Series.  I have covered 5 weeks to date.  My goal is to give you just a little information that will stay with you verses the other.  Therefore you don’t have to see the entire staircase in order to take the first step.  I will be here to guide you.

If you are tired of searching for the perfect system to declutter and clean your home, there is no perfect system.  The closest you will get is by establishing daily habits that take care of yourself, your family and your home.  From there you can design your system your way and that is what Marilyn’s Way is all about.  I hope you will join me.

I also have a group on Facebook you can belong to so you have support.  Just let me know here by commenting in the comments section of this blog and I will get you in.  It is by invitation only for ones that are serious about learning an easy way to take care of yourself, your family and your home so you may live and enjoy your life!

Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! Series Week #2
Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! Series Week #3
Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! Series Week #4

This week we are starting with habit number one – Getting Dressed To Shoes.  I am not asking you to get all doled up.  I am simply asking you to get out of your pajamas and into some clothes.  This sets your mind up to get to work.  Some may say they can declutter and clean in their pajamas just fine.  Can you really?  What about the knock on the door?  Maybe Timmy became ill at school.  Would you be ready?  These things happen in real life.

If you are already getting dressed to shoes each day, hooray for you!  It may be because you have to go to work every day.  If you are a stay at home mom aren’t you also working?

Can You Be Successful With The Series Without Getting Dressed To Shoes?

The answer is yes because you are successful for just being you!  If the thought of getting dressed to shoes appalls you, don’t stop.  Just proceed to the next habit which I will reveal next Monday.

For those who want to give it a try, become aware how you feel when you are dressed to shoes verses dressing in pajamas.  Jot the notes down in your notebook/3 ring binder.

For those that aren’t sure of what FLYing Clothes are, please read What Are FLYing Clothes?  It gives you a better idea.

This week’s goal is focusing on ‘Getting Dressed To Shoes’ each day.  If you stumble, pick yourself up and begin again.  One thing I have learned in this journey is there are many beginnings and stumbles.  It is simply your way of learning what does or doesn’t work for you.  I am simply giving you a set of guidelines.  It is up to you to write your own ‘Dance Card’.  Having a notebook or 3 ring binder for notes makes it easier to get there.  We all learn differently.

Tell me how you have been able to change this habit and how you did it by commenting below.  I would love to hear!

Next week: Habit Number 2 – Swish & Swipe

Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! Series

Welcome to week 4! This week I give you a loose outline for the series. If you are just joining us, here are the links to the previous three.

Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! Series Week #1
Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! Series Week #2
Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! Series Week #3

If you haven’t gotten your notebook or 3 ring binder please get it this week to complete the series.  The purpose of the notebook/binder is to have everything pertaining to decluttering, cleaning and organizing your home all in one place.  As I teach you the system you will also be building a Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! Home Journal that will have everything you need.  This is also called ‘Your Dance Card’.

Daily Habits For You And Your Family

Each day you will have nine daily habits and one weekly habit.  The habits include getting dressed to shoes, deciding on ‘What’s For Dinner?’ along with making dinner.  These are the habits that are focused on you and your family.  We all have to eat at least one decent meal a day and getting dressed to shoes makes one ready for the day.

Daily Habits For Your Home

The rest of the habits are ones that are focused on your home.  If you have lots to declutter, my suggestion is to keep the rest of your life as simple as possible.

Consider A FLYing Wardrobe

This simply means wearing an outfit you can associate with FLYing.  Mine is usually a tank top and a pair of jeans.  A shirt to throw on is always nearby if I would have to run to the store.  My jeans are also ones that are comfortable.  You don’t want to feel restricted when you are going to ‘Dance Till You FLY!’

Weekly Habit On Specific Days

The weekly habit on specific days is what is going to make your world go round.  They are simply maintenance habits.  We all need to set aside time to plan our week.  Whatever day is specified for your errands, the day before is best for meal planning, grocery list making and doing a  refrigerator Cha Cha Cha.   Whatever day your errands are, the day after is paperwork and cha cha cha your purse and car.  It is like finishing up the week.

Consider having a FLYing Wardrobe to simplify decluttering,  cleaning and organizing your home.  Wearing a simple top and bottom will be one less thing to have to think about each day.

Decide if you are one that does your Doo Wop Errand Day the same day each week or if it varies from week to week.  This will help you in your planning style.

Have you got your notebook/binder to complete the series?  Please buy one this week.

Company Ready Home In Minutes!

Yesterday  when the secretary of my insurance man said he would have to come out and get papers signed, I didn’t panic.  I have been practicing the nine habits of a flylady influenced simplified system I created called Dance Till You FLY! mw.  Just practicing just these habits each day every day won’t get your home squeaky clean. It does keep your home ‘Company Ready’.

In fact, I believe that this is what most who search to get organized are looking for. How can I keep up on my day to day activities and take care of myself, my family and my home? That is the question most ask. It is establishing a foundation in which to build upon.

That is what Dance Till You FLY! mw System is all about. It is about establishing nine non negotiable habits one does daily, weekly habits on specific days, ‘Weekly Home Mambo’ where one touches on seven tasks to do to get the home ready for the week and finally focusing on a zone each week to declutter first and detail clean second.

Today I want to just talk about the nines and how I got ready for my insurance man to come for a visit. Look for upcoming blogs where I will break down my Dance Till You FLY! mw System and explain in detail. For now, the following are the nine habits I practice each day every day.

Nine habits
Nine Habits Each Day Every Day

What did I do today to get ready for company? I did my first three habits and baked a batch of cookies, cleaning as I go so when he arrived I had coffee and cookies waiting for him. And yes my sink was shining!

Companyreadyname
‘Company Ready Home’ including a fresh batch of cookies I baked this morning!

It was a real treat for me. We visited about various subjects for approximately two hours. I didn’t let perfectionism spoil the conversations we had. My home wasn’t perfect but I will say it way company ready and that is good enough for me!

What things do you do to get ready for company? Reply down below. I would love to hear.
