The Number One Tool To Help You With Fibromyalgia

Note: May 12th Is Fibromyalgia Awareness Day.

Maybe you cannot pronounce it, maybe you don’t understand it. Just know one thing. This is REAL and too many mostly women are living with it. It is called Fibromyalgia. I will also reveal the number one tool that has helped me the most in dealing with fibromyalgia but first some reasons why it is so difficult to treat.

Different Levels Affecting All Areas

There are all levels and it affects all areas. Fibromyalgia is a Central Nervous System Sensitization Disorder. This is why it is so difficult to manage.

Add Perpetuating Factors To The Mix

To best explain ‘Perpetuating Factors’ Devin Starlanyl Initiating, Aggravating And Perpetuating Factors Description click on the link. She has by far the best explanation and has written books as well.

Once one can ‘Identify Perpetuating Factors’, that is when the work begins at getting rid of them. This is so much harder than it sounds. Take it from me who has been diagnosed with it since 1989.

For the past year I have been reading up on how almost every illness happens in the gut. To rule this out, I have gone grain free, gluten free, almost dairy free (I eat yogurt/frozen and will eat cheese from time to time), sugar free, and junk food free. Yes, I slip every once in a while because this is such a restricted diet.

After Three Months On Dietary Changes

I can say I feel somewhat better. May that as it be, I still hurt, have sleeping problems and chronic fatigue. I have not reached the level where I can live a somewhat normal life because of these perpetuating factors.

Gearing Up To Seek Out Doctors Who Will Listen Again

It has been about four years since I have actively pursued ruling out other illnesses that can mimic fibromyalgia. In order to do this I have had to grow a thick skin metaphorically speaking.  Part of the problem is when a doctor doesn’t know, he or she won’t come out and say they don’t know and refer you on to someone else that may possibly know. THAT’s where many of the problems are found making it difficult to seek out a cause and be provided the treatment one needs to begin to get well.

The second part of the problem is if you seek out different doctors for various areas of your health, there is no guarantee that the doctors will consult with one another to help you solve your fibromyalgia. What is one to do then?

The #1 Tool That Has Helped The Most Is…

If you want to get to the bottom of this, I am here to tell you none of it is an overnight cure all. That said, there are many things one can do.

Get yourself a notebook/binder that will be your number one tool. Keep all of your health information, lab tests together and become your very own detective. It is the best tool out there today. The notebook/binder assists you in ruling out all possibilities.

Why Am I Ready To Battle The Purple Monster Again?

I am sick and tired of being sick and tired and I simply won’t stand for any doctor to say it is all in my head. Of course it is all in my head! It is a Central Nervous System Sensitization Syndrome. The article explains it well.

That said, I will not stand for any doctor who believes it is emotional for the sake of it being emotional. Of course it is emotional! Not being able to live the life you had planned and being able to have all the opportunities that other healthy individuals receive is going to make a person emotional.

No one asks to get Fibromyalgia like no one asks to get Cancer. The difference between the two? Cancer has a cure giving you the opportunity to get better. Fibromyalgia does not. If not treated properly, both disease and syndrome have one thing in common. You can die from them. Usually with Fibromyalgia it will be the perpetuating factors that will be the cause as many who have fibromyalgia can simply die of a ‘Broken Heart’.

To the ones that don’t understand fibromyalgia, give your friends and family the benefit of the doubt. If you don’t understand it. Tell your loved one you don’t.

Finally the best thing you can do to help your friend or family member is to be patient and compassionate. When you have plans and the plans fall through because they are hurting, don’t start not asking to do things with them. Just be prepared that it may be a bad day. Just like we don’t know when we can get bad weather again from the next system that passes through, it is the same for fibromyalgia. AND get this… The two are correlated together. It has everything to do with the barometric pressure.

How Do I Know What I Know To Date?

It is simply a matter of jotting notes down into a notebook/binder to collect information in hopes of solving your case. I no longer want to be talked down to. I have wasted so much of my life hiding. Hiding from ones that don’t understand, hiding from myself because I don’t know what to do next, and finally hiding from life. The latter is the one that hurts the most.

Today is Fibromyalgia Awareness Day. If a friend or family member wants to let you know about the awareness day, stop what you are doing and ask them, “What can I do to help make your journey to find the answers related to fibromyalgia?” Most will say to understand that you may not understand fibromyalgia and that’s alright.”

Finish It Up Fridays!

Recently I have found a name and a description for the 5 working days of the week. I like the addition to Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System. Of course it is always optional and can be used for variety.

Why I decided to have some fun names for each day of the working week is to provide structure. Remember Sundays many families have sat down to a chicken dinner. When one thought of Sunday they immediately associated it with church and chicken dinner. Today I am writing about Friday.

‘Finish It Up Fridays’ is simply that! Whatever projects you have been working on during the week, today is the day to finish them up so Saturday can be fun time and Sunday a day of rejuvenating yourself. Examples of ‘Finish It Up Fridays’ are:

  • Undone Paperwork With A Deadline
  • Balancing Your Checkbook
  • Any Household Project You Started During The Week
  • List Is Endless

If we learn to plan our lives one week at a time, the days and months go so much better. Why? Because breaking things up by days, weeks, months, quarters, and years makes ones life a bit more manageable and isn’t that what we all are searching for?

Fibromyalgia Isn’t A Death Sentence

Some days it sure feels like Fibromyalgia is a death sentence.  There are the aches and pains and flu like symptoms that seem to drag on.  The point is that you won’t die from it like Cancer.  It will make you as miserable as some Cancers and  that’s where the two end.

So many seem to have fibromyalgia these days.  Remember the ‘Yuppie Flu?’  I do because that is what my fibromyalgia started out to be.  It was the  80’s where we were told we could have it all.  What wasn’t said is some may have to pay for it health wise.

Do you see me raising my hand?  Yep, that is me.  I have always worked hard at anything I do.  Part of it is in my genes.  The other part is from being brainwashed that I could do it all and be happy.

One thing that complicated things was that I am Adult ADD and have Sleep Apnea.  The combination of the three spells disaster but it isn’t a death sentence.

I spend more than 80% in pain daily.  Does this mean I give up?  Already tried that.  It doesn’t work.  I got sick and tired of giving up.  That’s what happened.

After a five year stunt of being a ‘pajama junkie’ it was time to change.  That is when I took Flylady’s March habit of Getting Dressed To Shoes to heart.  I hated the way I felt all the time.  More important I hated the way I was living.

Then The Miracle Happened!

Today, I no longer have the strong need to have to explain myself to others.  What a weight that has been lifted off of my shoulders.  Of course I don’t look sick.  Fibromyalgia is an invisible illness and I work very hard at NOT looking sick.

The Magic Pill

I have found it.  My next question is to all that do have Fibromyalgia.  If I tell you what it is, are you willing to take it?  I really want you to think about this.  If there is a magic pill, would you be willing to take it?  What would you do for it?  Are you ready to have side effects from a magic pill that cause happiness, to first love yourself and others come next, moments of joy, feelings of worthiness, knowing your limitations and working around them, finding something you feel passionate about and do it?  Not bad side effects are they?

To The Friends And Family Of Ones That Are Affected By Fibromyalgia

I invite you to wear ankle weights for 36 hours.  Go about your time in a regular manner.  Check in with yourself at 2 pm and then 5 pm.  How are you feeling?

When you go to bed continue to wear them while you sleep.  Then the next morning check yourself to see how you feel.  Don’t take them off yet.  You still need to wear them for another 12 hours.

You are looking at a total of two work days wearing them.  How did it affect your work performance?  How did it affect how you interacted with other co workers? (remember,  they do not know you are wearing ankle weights)

Next, I invite you to wear them all the time.  The difference this time is the number of pounds in the ankle weights will fluctuate throughout the day.  How did you feel?  Did you begin to develop other problems like concentration difficulties because you had no control when the weight of the ankle weights changed?  What about itching or skin burning?  Were you walking right along and the amount of weight changed in the ankle weight causing a sharp pain from changing the weight to a heavier setting? What about feeling dizzy or nauseous?  What about loud noises and bright lights?  Do any of these startle you?

What Your Body Does Next

Continue wearing the fluctuating  ankle weights a little while longer without knowing when you can take them off.  Soon your mind and body are no longer in sync.  You begin to get false readings as to how you feel.  Your sensor has gone bad.

Then The Itching Begins

Why do you ask?  Because when the brain cannot interpret what is going on.  When all else fails it sends out a signal to itch.  Your sensor that is connected to your brain and body has become faulty.

Our body and mind can only be pushed so far before this happens. (remember, you are still wearing those ankle weights that now fluctuate in the amount of weight it is in each ankle weight at any given time.)

Congratulations!

You have just experienced what I go through on a daily basis.  Do I like it?  No.  In fact I hate it.  It has become exhausting and I want it to stop.  For me, I cannot take off the ankle weights and neither can anyone else that suffers from Fibromyalgia.  We now have to learn how to adjust.  This will take years learning because one thing that Fibromyalgia is known for is being a high maintenance illness.

To The Ones Who Have Been Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia

I applaud you for you just being you.  Have you ever seen a duck floating in the water?  It looks as though it is floating along.  What most don’t know is the duck is paddling furiously just to stay afloat.  I know it and you know it.  I am hoping someday others not affected by this illness will know it too.

As For The Magic Pill

I have decided to wait until next Wednesday to reveal it.  I want you to give some thought as to what I wrote.  Don’t worry, next Wednesday will be her before you know it and this magic pill is worth the wait.

In the meantime, let me know if you agree or disagree with how fibromyalgia feels.  I welcome your comments and thoughts.

Day 11 Of The Great Declutter Your Kitchen And Organize Your Pantry Event!

Are you ready to get back into the event?  I know I am.  I spent the last couple of days outside working in my gardens and didn’t pay attention to my house.  You would think I would get it right as it isn’t my first rodeo.

Tonight I am going to write about how I get back to Dance TIll You FLY! mw System (c) 2014 featuring nine habits each day every day and if you get off track some like I have it isn’t hard to get back.

My focus is on my kitchen.  It is where most things are done in my home.  It really isn’t too bad but another day it would be.  I have this ‘3 day rule’ that everything stops until I get my home back to where I can easily function in it.

Face it, we all are going to have days like this and I am letting you know that I still do.  The important thing I have learned is my attitude towards it.  I no longer beat myself up when this happens.  It only delays your peace of mind.

I have been spending lots of time trying to find someone to help me with my blog to make it easy for you, my followers to read and navigate.  I have been borrowing from my spoon household account.  Now it is time to get back to it.

I will be doing this by setting the timer for 15ers or 15 minutes at a time followed by a 5 minute break.  Here are my before photos.

Here is my before picture.  It isn’t too bad.  Just don’t want it to get any worse.  This is where my ‘3 day rule’ comes in.

First, I always start with a sink full of hot soapy water.  I never leave dishes in the sink.  I have a tub under my sink where they go. Second, I go through and toss anything that can be thrown away and take the garbage out.  Third, I put things away where they belong.  Fourth, I wipe everything down and put out fresh dishcloth and towel.  That usually takes around 15 minutes.

Tonight I am waiting around for the dishwasher to finish so I can unload it and tomorrow I will be starting fresh.  I am sure you saw paperwork on my desk that is also in my kitchen with the computer.  I am going to spend another 15 minutes on that.  The rest will have to be for tomorrow.  I need time to empty the dishwasher and get the coffee ready for tomorrow.  I swept the floor earlier so no need to do it again.

Here is after.  It took 2- 15ers which included waiting for the dishwasher to finish and unload them.  Now I start fresh for tomorrow!

So you see, it could have taken much longer if I would have spent time feeling guilty that I didn’t keep up.  The fact is it happens and the best way to move forward is to put one dance step in front of the other with a few side steps.

Kick Off Your Day With Doo Wop Errand Day!

When I decided I wanted to create ‘Dance Till You FLY! mw System (c) 2014’ I knew the theme of my weekly habits had to be dance song related and they had to be upbeat music.  Not every day of the week has a dance name.  They had to make sense with the habit for each day of the week.  The video above is Billy Joel and Jimmy Fallon performing the Doo-wop song ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight.’  As you see, Doo Wop is alive and well!

Yesterday I did a ‘Refrigerator Cha Cha’.  I didn’t get the entire fridge cleaned because I ran out of spoons to do the entire job.  I knew the inside of the refrigerator was the most important.  I started out with that part.  The freezer was second in priority.  I have until April 7th to get that done.  April 8th is when the Schwans man LeRoy stops by my home.  It is a home food delivery service. (LeRoy and I share the same birthday and we are the same age.  I am one hour older than him.  This is important when you reach your 50 something age.)  There was a time I didn’t have a vehicle and had to rely on this service while a neighbor and my mom would get my other groceries.

Yes, I was that sick with fibromyalgia in the first part of the 2000’s.  That is when I became a 5 year pajama junkie until I took the personal challenge in March of 2011 to ‘Get Dressed To Shoes’ and post a photo along with a mini blog for 436 consecutive days and still going!  Most wouldn’t know.  I rarely went anywhere.  Out of sight is out of mind.  It wasn’t until 2009 that I could begin to function better, got a vehicle and could take care of myself better.

Today is my Doo Wop Errand Day.  In a perfect world, I try to do it on Thursdays as suggested by flylady because the day before the habit for me is a ‘Refrigerator Cha Cha’ or Flylady calls it a ‘Refrigerator Boogie’.  And this makes sense.  You want a clean fridge to come home to and can easily put away the foods one buys.  Yet why is it that so many don’t?  I used to be that way.  What I needed to realize that first before I go on ‘Doo Wop Errand Day’ that involves groceries it will make it so much easier after a day of shopping.

I really wanted to go to town yesterday.  I would have gotten home and then do a ‘Refrigerator Cha Cha! into the wee hours of the night.  I say this because I have done it and I pay for it in fibro flares the next couple days.  This makes it hard for me to do my ‘Cha Cha Cha Day’ after.  That is cleaning out my purse, car and then balance the checkbook with what I spent.  Two days later turns into a week and soon the month goes by and I haven’t done my paperwork.

Fibro flares really create havoc for me.  It can throw my entire system off.  Today I have learned to build in back up plan after back up plan so that I can be the most consistent at taking care of myself and my home.  Whenever you see ducks on the water, they are not just floating along.  Most of the time they are paddling their little feet off.  I am having fewer days like that because I have learned to plan.  Fibromyalgia is a very high maintenance illness.  Who has time to clean house?  Most housework is repetitive and that is hard on us.

Today I have a system that is built on nine habits each day every day.  It wasn’t until I understood the importance of ‘Habit’ was I able to get this far.  My home no longer looks like a tornado went through and I thank the nine habits I was able to figure out what ones were best for me.  Now I am sharing with you.

My list to buy is ready to go.  I have a form I use that I keep in my planner to enter things as I am running out of things.  Now the ‘Refrigerator Cha Cha’ is done.  I am ‘Dressed To Shoes.’ I have a full tummy and tank of gas to go ‘Doo Wop’ my ‘Errand Day!’

Nine Habits Each Day Every Day

Day 4 Of The Great Declutter You Kitchen And Organize Your Pantry Event!

Is this happening to you?

At the rate I am going, I won’t get everything done with this event in 30 days.  You see during this event I am also trying to get my blog user friendly for you.  The baby boomer has just bumped her head against the computer one too many times.  Why am I making this so difficult?  All I want is to make it easy for you to go to my Pinterest page and Twitter for now.  I have the Facebook one up from when a member designed the blog page.  I think it just needs some tweaking.  For the life of me I cannot get it figured out.  Is it because I am ADD?

Currently, I have 21 tabs opened!  It is going against everything I believe.  That is keeping things simple and doing the task at hand.  My question is, what if you can’t figure it out?

It is probably something simple but my mind cannot process it.  I hope it isn’t something like when one goes to do their dishes all they have to do is put the plug in the drain, turn on the water and pour in some soap.

Then again, why can’t it be this simple?  I am beginning to believe computer geeks are more left brained people.  I am far from it.  I would call myself at having a very dominant right brain thinking and through this journey of taking care of myself and my home I have had to train myself with some discipline.  Right now they seem to be going out the window.  Why?  Because I can’t figure out how to put the stupid social media buttons on to pinterest and twitter so you can visit me there if you want.

I’m Asking For Help.  Can Anyone Hear Me?
There are so many blogs out there and each are like one thumbprint.  There are ones that will provide a service to help you design your blog.  Why can’t I find anyone?  I am even willing to pay someone so I can get on to doing what I do best and that is living and doing Dance Till You FLY! mw System (c) 2014 that I created, influenced by Flylady along with my experience and education.  The only ones I seem to find are the ones that want to charge $1000.00.  My blog isn’t that developed to warrant spending that kind of money.  So, where are the other ones that would do what you ask for and make sure your blog is set up correctly?  Is it as simple as turning on the water, putting soap in to wash your dishes?  I would think so.

What about we 50 somethings became adults when the technology revolution began?  When I was working I started out selling pagers.  Fax machines were all the rage.  Text messaging wasn’t catching on.  Most wanted cell phones.

So here I am, I haven’t gotten all of my nines done today.  That isn’t like me.  I know how important they are.  Yet I have gotten caught up in the world of trying to get a couple buttons on my blog that will link.  Where is the voice in my head that says, “Give it a rest, Marilyn.  Do something else?”  Wait I think I am hearing it now.  I got as far as doing habits 1, 2, 3, and half of 4.  It is 5:30 pm.  Why didn’t my 2:00 pm warning sign kick in?  Oh, it was the buttons.  I kept thinking to try it this way and then that way.

What did save me?  The phone ringing to break up the trance I was in.  Mom called me to talk.  We visited for a bit.  I want to go back to the computer to try just another way to see if that works but my gut is saying no and instead telling me to finish up my nines.  That is what I am going to do.  My load of towels are done.  What is left is folding them and putting them away.  You know!  I am actually welcoming it because by doing so, I am guaranteed to feel a sense of accomplishment and then start dinner.

So what about habits 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9?  Will I get them done?  You betcha!  You see none of them really take that long to do.  What happens is we get caught up into something else like adding social buttons on.  For now, if you want to see my Pinterest boards and see what I say on Twitter click on the words.  I have tested them and they work.

Now, I am going to put the plug in the drain, turn on the water and put some dishwashing soap in.  I am going to start dinner by putting it in my little toaster oven.  While that is baking, I will finish the other half of habit 4 a load of laundry a day by folding it and putting it away.  That should take no longer than 15 minutes.

Next I will move on to Habit 5 – Declutter Each Day.  It will be in the kitchen and I will focus on the east countertop.  I am only going to be able to spend at the most 15 minutes because I have used up too large of a spoon trying to figure out social media buttons.  This will allow me to get habits 7, 8, and 9 which at the most will take 30 minutes.

Wow!  It looks like I am going to have my ‘Me Time’ later tonight afterall.  Now where’s that timer?  Looks like I will be setting it for 5- 15ers.  Now I feel better. I want to thank my mom for calling me.  It snapped me out of my technological trance!

Preparing dinner
Notice I have a sink full of hot soapy water ready?
Tackle the east cabinets counter tops
15 minutes later and everything that was on the counter went either in the trash or to its home
Next, get my load of laundry a day finishing steps 4 and 5
All folded good enough because done is better than perfect
The drawer is waiting to hold the…
clean, folded towels with each having its own dish cloth and into the drawer
The rest went where it is supposed to go.  Now load these photos is what I have done while waiting for dinner
Dinner is served.  Sweet pepper and carrots from last year’s garden with a chicken breast. Not as soon as I wanted it.  At least it is before 10 pm.  The rest is done.  Now I will eat and then publish this post for tomorrow.  Night everyone!

(NOTE:  All of this was done in real time.  Nothing was staged.  When I set out on this journey I was searching for something I could do my way.  That is how I best learn with keeping consistency in the front of my mind.  I found Flylady in 2005 and have learned so much.  What I learned was the importance of habits.  From there I created Dance Till You FLY! mw featuring nine habits each day every day.  It is a simple plan that also has weekly habits and monthly events.  I am sharing it with you all and to not give up.  Practicing the nines will get you far.  Dance Till You FLY! mw was also created for me living with fibromyalgia and being ADD.  It wasn’t until I found Flylady and took her March Habit of Getting Dressed to Shoes and posting a photo with a mini blog daily for 436 consecutive days did I learn the importance of habit.  If you want to see the video that Flylady made of me getting dressed to shoes for one year to her song, click on Flybaby Marilyn and that will take you there.  While you are there check out Flylady’s videos.  She has great ones.  Please! Someone rescue me from those social media buttons!  I am sure it is simple but this ole brain is suffering from information overload!  I guess I will have a piece of chocolate for desert.)

Day 3 The Great Declutter Your Kitchen And Organize Your Pantry Event

I have to tell you something!  Making dinner last night was actually pleasant to do for once!  The two drawers I spend the most time using?  They now hold Only the things I Love to use.  I was amazed at how smooth it was.  No more overstuffed drawers that wouldn’t open and shut easily. First, I always start out with a sink full of hot soapy water.  It makes clean as you cook go so much better.  You stand there watching the food cook.  Why not wash the things you used to prepare it?  Like the bowl you may have used to mix something up.

Yesterday I handled more spoons than I could handle and I didn’t get my ‘Cha Cha Cha!’ done before bed.

Cha Cha Cha! is:

Throw Away
Give Away
Put Away

Okay, couldn’t I simply say the three words?  Sure but how much fun would that be?  I created Dance Till You FLY! mw System (c) 2014 that I will be sharing with you in the coming months.
How did I come up with this name?  I woke up one morning and that was what was in my head.  I thought about it and then after my first, well second cup of coffee I realized that’s what we all do when it comes to taking care of ourselves and our home.  Nothing is straight forward when developing habits and routines.  It takes practice to find your own groove, your own song.  All this happens from trial and error.  F.L.Y means to me: First Love Yourself (others come next)  I use the concept of what the airlines say is best to do if in a situation that the oxygen masks come down.  They advise to always put yours on first before your child.  The thing is if you put your child’s mask on first, those seconds you do could cause you to pass out and your child would be getting oxygen but wouldn’t have the skills as you are passed out to know to get your mask on.  Instead you would have a freaked out child because Mommy won’t wake up.  That is why it is important to learn to First Love Yourself.  In order to get there you will keep dancing until you get there.
Who doesn’t feel good after they finished dancing?  It is a way to generate feel good endorphins.  That is one thing we need in our tool box.  So you will hear dance step names for things I do daily and my weekly habits I practice.  Note:  This is another thing I have learned to say.  Instead of telling myself I HAVE TO do the dishes now, I say I will practice doing the dishes.  Face it, housework is never really done.  The sooner I was able to accept that, the better I have learned to feel.
We Don’t Keep Track Of What Works Or Doesn’t Work When Looking For A System
Many times we will try different dance steps. Yes, we can still get frustrated.  Why?  Because we don’t keep track of what works or doesn’t work.  This is where a notebook comes in handy.  Just jot it down as you are searching.  There are plenty of ways to take care of yourself and your home.  All you have to do is google clutter, cleaning, organizing or home and you will come up with all kinds of sites.  If you keep going to organizing sites over and over again to find the perfect system you are going to fail.  There is no perfect system out there.  There are simply suggestions.  Anyone can make lists of things to do.  The trick is implementing them on a daily basis.  Make your notebook your friend.
Finding ‘Your’ Way
It is more important to me for you to find ‘Your Way’ to do things.  For myself I have learned that fun words make everything easier.  I just made up a theme of dancing.  The majority of us are going to put some music on and dance anyway.  Why not have a theme for all the things we do each day?
Back To April’s Great Declutter Your Kitchen And Organize Your Pantry
Because of what I learned yesterday, I am having to make adjustments.  One thing I have learned is that I cannot go ‘Full Throttle’ all of the time and ‘Pacing’ myself is one of the core basics of my system.
Yesterday, I spent 45 minutes on April’s event.  What I didn’t factor in was the time it took to stop and take photos, upload them and put watermarks on.  You see this is what so many of us don’t factor in and then we don’t feel good about our accomplishments for the day.  I also didn’t factor in the time it took me to write and then publish the blog.  I love to write.  Part of the responsibility to my followers is that I edit my work so it will make sense to you.  That takes time.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy doing it and love to share what I have learned along the way.  I just didn’t factor in the time.  I got to bed much later than I usually do.  What I used to do is continue to go that same pace and through journaling I have learned I can do it 3 days in a row.  By the 4th day I fall into a heap.  Anyone else experience this?  The thing is on the 4th day, you still have to take care of yourself and your home.  There is no autopilot.
Clean Your Faucet
That said, my task that I did was give my sink a good cleaning.  The area I focused on was the faucet.  Where I live we have well water and it is very hard on the plumbing.  If I don’t do a maintenance cleaning every few months, I will be buying another faucet.
Today I used vinegar.  I took the faucet filter off and soaked it in vinegar.  I sprayed non diluted vinegar on the handles and the base of the faucet.  I left it on while the screen and end of the faucet piece was soaking. The last thing I did was take a toothbrush to get anything that works its way into the edge of the outside sink.  I checked back after a couple of hours.  ( I let it soak as I was writing this blog)
The mineral deposits on the faucet
Mineral deposits behind base of faucet
Mineral deposits really built up
Soaked in straight vinegar
Straight vinegar water sprayed on faucet
I used a tile grout brush to get the mineral deposits off

I used a stainless steel cleaner for my sink

Nice and shiny

Clean again!
(NOTE: Parts of my home is the schoolhouse on the praire built in 1882.  When my town was established in 1887, they moved it to the current location conducting school for a few more years until it was purchased to become a home. The kitchen was added on first and later the bathroom and dining room.  All the kitchen cabinets on the west side were put in around 2005.  I purchased them used.)
