Decluttering In The Rough

Posted on Posted in Organization, The Flylady, Walkabout

Recently I bought a box of fruit from Future Farmers Of America.  I went looking for the recipe for cleaning pesticides off of apples and all that apply.  I want to wash a sink full of apples and put them in my refrigerator.  This way, they will be ready to eat or to juice.  I have the recipe in one of my Juicing books.  They are located in my Recipe Books etc cupboard in my kitchen.

It has been awhile since I went searching for something in that cabinet.  As I was looking for the book, I noticed all of these outdated magazines and catalogs.  There was even some stash and dash items as well.  Instead of just finding the book and shutting the cabinet door, I got an “Aha Moment!”  Go through this cabinet and pull out the very obvious material that can easily be determined clutter.  “Make it simple” and “Do It Now!”  Sure I know there are some things in this cabinet that I haven’t decided whether it is clutter to me or not.  That isn’t what this exercise is about.

This exercise is about the “OBVIOUS!”  We all have this stuff.  Get rid of it.  As I was looking for my tiny book that had the recipe, I spent less than 5 minutes decluttering.  It is starting to become automatic in my day. We will always have something that is trash or needs to be blessed as long as we continue to bring things into our homes.  Today when I shop,  I think if I have a home for the item and if I don’t, I don’t buy.  This includes magazines which at one time in my life I had to always buy a magazine at the grocery store.  I am glad to have broken myself of this habit.  Both have helped my pocketbook and unnecessary clutter in my home.  So as you go about your life and you are looking for something in your house and run into some clutter that can easily be gone, don’t wait later.  Instead “Do It Now” and find that “Declutter In The Rough.”  You will feel lighter and less constrained when you spend just 5 minutes doing this!  I surprised myself and you can too!
