(The following story is dedicated to my brother Rich’s dog Abby who crossed ‘Rainbow Bridge’ last night.)
Animated, adaptable and agile, ‘Abby’ the Australian Shepherd lived for her job, which involved herding livestock and worked as an all-purpose farm and ranch dog. She needed a lot of activity and a sense of purpose to be truly content. ‘Abby’s’ coat was black and tan for the most part with a snubbed tail.
Did You Know?
THE AUSSIE’S POPULARITY BOOMED WITH WESTERN CULTURE AND HORSE-RIDING AFTER WWII AND WAS OFTEN FEATURED IN RODEOS, HORSE SHOWS, MOVIES, AND TV.
Although there are many theories about the origin of the Australian Shepherd, the breed as we know it today developed exclusively in the United States.
As with most working breeds, the Australian Shepherd was initially called by many names, including Spanish Shepherd, Pastor Dog, Bob-Tail, Blue Heeler, New Mexican Shepherd, and California Shepherd.
Retirement Came Hard
There comes a time in every working dog’s life that they have done all the work they can do and it is time for retirement. Because my brother ‘Rich’ knew how much ‘Abby’ loved being with the cattle, he got creative. ‘Abby’s’ replacement became an ‘All Terrain Four Wheeler’. Whenever Rich worked the cattle, Abby got to ride along. Being with the cattle was the happiest place she liked to be.
Rainbow Bridge Came Calling
The latter years of ‘Abby’s’ life were spent indoors. She had lost her hearing and could no longer see. Last night it was time for her to cross ‘Rainbow Bridge’ where she became restored to health and will wait for my brother ‘Rich’ to meet her again. ‘Rich’ wrapped her body in her favorite blanket and buried her by the shed facing the cattle lot. ‘Abby’ would like that. Rest In Peace sweet ‘Abby’. You will never be forgotten.
*For purposes of this story, all dogs were Abby’s stand ins to show what a great life she had.
If there was ever a day not to get dressed to shoes, today would be one. I woke up this morning to a gloomy rainy day. Who wants to do anything?
To top it off, today would be very tempting. You see I have been putting the vegetable garden in the past 4 days. I have bended, twisted, lifted, pulled, walked, balanced, and took a small tumble. All for the love of gardening.
Snap Out Of It!
As a former 5+ year pajama junkie I know it would be a bad idea. Back then I would have easily said, okay. Today when the thought comes up instead of the usual jeans and knit top, I decide to wear my yoga pants, tank top and matching jacket. I now have the best of both worlds.
Here’s What You Will Miss Out
If I did stay in my pajamas the following is what I will miss out should the opportunity arise.
Yes, opportunity. That’s the secret and the payoff of getting dressed to shoes. ‘It is afavorable, appropriate, oradvantageouscombinationof circumstances’. Who wouldn’t want that each day? I am guessing the able-bodied ones that decided to stay in their pajamas today. When I think of all the ‘Opportunity’ I missed out for 5+ years living in pajamas and I realize today how much I starved myself of life.
I could list a long list of opportunities you would miss, but you know them already. Just to get you to thinking, here are a three…
Impromptu Lunch Date
Getting To The Hospital Quickly For The Birth Of A Baby Or Emergency Surgery Of A Family Member
Morning Or Afternoon Coffee Guest
Still in your pajamas? Stop what you are doing and ‘Get Dressed To Shoes’! With all the styles of clothing out in the stores today, there is an outfit for EVERY occasion. Why not choose to put on clothes that say, ‘I am living today! I am available for opportunity.’
In the coming months I will be working on an a New Website Design. Please bare with me. I am hoping to do this myself.
In a perfect world I would hire someone to do this. I personally do not have $800.00 laying around to take a chance on a website designer. Furthermore as of this date, my website/blog does not produce any income through affiliate links where I would get a very small percentage of income on a product I use or suggest that you may buy.

The down side is that it isn’t organized well. This is because of my non technical experience. I just like to write about things that matter to me and share with others.

Gardening Season Is Here!
I am a gardener and love to share my photos of my progress. In between I will continue to write posts as to how I am adjusting my system Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! To Remove Clutter & CHAOS Your Way. I am challenged with keeping my home in order during this time. Through the use of the system I created, I have been able to keep my home 45 Minutes Away From Company Ready. It can be a challenge during gardening season but because of my love of gardening and the importance of being able to dance my way through the 9 Habits Of Marilyn’s Way life is easier!
Spring is right around the corner! It is the time of year when everything comes to life again. Why not do some weeding in your closet and drawers to let the clothes you LOVE shine through?
Many Ways To Declutter Clothes!
With all the information at our fingertips, there are many ways to declutter our clothes. One asks that we take them all out of our closet and drawers and try each one one to see if it brings us joy. I say, if you have time to do this, Go For It!
I had to get honest with myself based on the history of my decluttering practices that this would not be a realistic way for me to go.
I have learned it is more important to keep my home going by way of the 9 Habits Of Marilyn’s Way. These 9 habits must always be the priority before we take on a big project like decluttering our clothes.
“The refrigerator is one of the hardest working appliances in your home — and one that often takes a beating. It’s subject to spills, varied odors, and overcrowding, and it’s the one appliance that never gets a rest. A clean refrigerator promises to keep food fresher, so do your best to maintain the cleanliness of this kitchen workhorse.” -Martha Stewart
End of the month is always a great time for myself to clean the inside of my fridge. To me, it is all about preparing for the coming month.
Wednesdays I usually clean out spoiled food and wipe the shelves down one shelf at a time. I call it a ‘Refrigerator Boogie’. It also has other benefits.
A great time to take inventory of items on hand before the weekly grocery shopping trip.
Prepares the fridge for the food one purchases.
Makes dinner preparation easier.
However, the end of the month is when I have the least amount of food in it and I take advantage of removing what is in there and mixing a solution of baking soda and water to give it a good wipe down.
I always have my running grocery list nearby to jot things down as I think of them during this time.
Now, the only thing I have to wait for is ‘Pay Day!’

I really don’t know why I didn’t think of this before to write as a blog. Many have been sick with cold and flu this season and it makes it very difficult to FLY. So what should you do? I suggest you make a ‘Emergency FLYing Kit.’ What are two things that pile up when you get sick? Dishes and Laundry. If you are practicing the ‘Daily 9’s’ it shouldn’t get too bad. They are the habits that keep you, your family and your home going. I can’t help you with the laundry but I can with the dishes!
Emergency Flying Kit That’s right. It is something to put together ‘before’ you get sick. It is as follows:
Three ‘Meal Ideas’ that promote ‘Easy Clean up.’
Some may say using these things are not good for the environment. I say NOT using them is not good for a sick caregiver such as yourself. If you had a birthday party you are likely to have some leftover paper plates. Maybe from the holidays. Use them up.
I average just two times a week where I will eat a meal on a paper plate. I have plastic silverware and glasses if I really need them. It is just me so washing some silverware is no big deal for me. But if you have a family, the last thing you want to do are dishes.
FLY stands for First Love Yourself others come next. Do yourself a favor and put a kit together. Put some napkins in there too. If you don’t have to worry about all the cleanup you will have to do when you feel better, who knows maybe you just might recover sooner!
I hope you will take this idea seriously. I live with Fibromyalgia and for me just eating on paper plates a couple of times a week makes a world of difference in my FLYing.
I am pleased to say I have been doing this habit every day since March 2011 when I took a personal challenge to Flylady’s Monthly Habit for March – Get Dressed To Shoes. This winter I hope to gather all of the photos and the message for the day and put it into an ebook. You will then be able to see all 436 consecutive days in one place.
Sleep is one of the most important parts of being able to help us get out of the depths of CHAOS. I have ‘Sleep Apnea’ and I use a ‘Bi Pap Machine’. It has been one of the tools that helped me develop the Habit 1 – Get Dressed To Shoes.
The message today is if you do not have good sleeping habits, the rest of the things you do in life will never be your best. I find when I am well rested everything seems to fall into place. That said if a crisis presents itself, I am also better able to handle it.
Stress plays a large part of our quality of sleep. I have recently experienced this and was so glad I had the 9 Habits I do daily well established. The 9 Habits are the CORE of Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System To Remove Clutter & CHAOS.
Many Cleaning & Organizing Systems Out There
There are many out there. The latest in popularity is the Konmari Method. She has great pointers. That said, what I have learned the most is that just like sleep, if you don’t have a set of habits you do each day established, it doesn’t matter what cleaning system you choose none of them will help you achieve what we all want. A ‘Clutter Free’ enviroment that we welcome anyone into our home without the dreaded feeling of shame.
It wasn’t until I took Flylady’s March Habit Challenge in 2011 – Get Dressed To Shoes that I really understood the concept of established habits that make your day a day to take on any challenge. This is how 9 Habits for Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System To Remove Clutter & CHAOS were born.
