3 Ways To Jumpstart Your Day!

Mondays tend to be hard to get our new week going. The following are 3 ways you can get a Jumpstart To Your Day!

Unplug  Yourself!

Unplug Yourself.
Unplug Yourself.

That’s what my internet company asks me to do with the modem. Wait a minute and then plug it back in.

Why not try it on yourself? Energy and direction are sure to follow! Add a splash of Positive Attitude and nothing will stop you!

Do A 25 Fling ‘THROW AWAY’ Boogie!

Don't Complicate It!
Don’t Complicate It!

If you really want to get moving without very little effort, grab a bag and go through your home and find 25 items no matter the size and ‘Throw Away’!

A sense of accomplishment sets in and you can be well on your way to:

Play BINGO!

Bingo The Nines
Bingo The Nines

That’s right! Make a game of your day! Where does it say we have to have the things we do become so complicated? Aren’t most of our daily things we do tasks that are best done when they become habits?

Try any or all of the 3 ways to ‘Jumpstart Yourself’ for 3 days and see if it makes your days go smoother!

Could Busyness Be The Reason For Your Paper Clutter?

As a kid, I used to like to play the game, ‘Secretary’ where I loved having piles of paper on my desk. At the time it made me feel important. Of course all I did in the game was move the piece of paper from one side of my make shift desk to the other side never really looking at it.

This is where I developed the bad habit of:

Busyness

It started rather innocently. Today I would like nothing better than to get rid of this habit. What do I do I do instead? I find myself moving the piece of paper from one side of my desk to another.

Most say to deal with the newest incoming mail first. And that is where my problem lies. What is it about it that I don’t like opening up my mail that I end up with this huge pile of paperwork in a month’s time?

Bills & Medicare

I am on Disability for Fibromyalgia and Arthritis.  I WISH I could work full time. But no one will hire me because I can only work for about 30 minutes and then I have to break for 15. This is where the bills pile up. I don’t get enough each month to pay all of my bills.

I would like to point out that this money I get from the government is what I have paid into. Many think it is a government handout. It is not. I get a disability check based on the income I was making at the time of my disability. This was back in 2002 and the monthly check worked. Today with inflation it no longer does.

For some reason Medicare can’t seem to say everything they want to say on one piece of paper. And all letters from them look the same so each has to be opened up. I used to file it away, thus all the paperwork. Today it gets recycled but not before it seems to create a big pile.

In October 2012 I did a major Paper Declutter and wrote about it for 31 days. Because of my technically challenged skills I haven’t been able to get those blogs moved over to here. The following photo is what I did get rid of and it was very freeing.

This is the result of 10 Days Of Concentrated Effort Each Day To Rid Myself Of Paper Clutter In 2012.

A Story About Procrastination, Perfectionism and the Do It Now Principle

This is a story about Procrastination, Perfectionism and the Do It Now Principle. This is a very TRUE STORY!

My brother’s blender wore out. He called to ask if he could use mine. He needed it to puree tomatoes.  I said sure.

I was eating dinner and thought when I am done, I will get it out then. After all, I know where it is and just a matter of getting it when he stops by.

Fast forward. He is here. I am still eating but no problem. I stop eating and go to the cabinet to get it. I am having a hard time finding it in the deep cabinet that it is stored so I get my flashlight. Here it is.

I pull out the base and then the carafe. Next I go for the lid.  It is no where to be found! I looked in other cabinets and drawers. Nothing came up. Now I am starting to sweat.

Now What?

Here I am, a blogger and owner of a Facebook Group and a Facebook Page that helps others with Clutter and CHAOS. I have always prided myself not to just shove things where they will fit.

In this case, apparently that is just what happened. Now what?

Always A Way!

I had an option. It is called owning a food processor. Will all of that be together? I go to get it, check it over and yes it is all there! The cherry on top was the fact the instructional booklet was there as well!

Did I Learn Anything?

Yes! I learned to give myself some slack.  Today there is no grade to pursue, no contest, no nothing.  Procrastination, Perfectionism and the Do It Now Principle is simply going to have to loosen up as well! Sometimes things go smoothly and sometimes it is what it is.

Want To Declutter? Can’t Get Motivated? Try This!

As long as there are new products, there will always be clutter. Why? Because we simply haven’t learned the skill when we buy something new, something must leave our home.

The Clutter No One Talks About

You know the stuff. If not, let me remind you. It is the stuff laying around in your homes that have absolutely NO VALUE.  Example, a used paper towel or kleenex that didn’t seem to make it to the trash. What about the cap to the bottle of water you drank?

Then there is something we call ‘Junk Mail’.  Sure, the best way to get rid of that clutter is to toss it right away. Yet many don’t. Rather they will pile their mail and deal with it later.

What about all those ‘Stash and Dash’ moments when company will be coming? Who has the time to sort whether it is trash or not? Instead we shove everything into the nearest drawer with the least amount of things.

Then there are the ‘Expired Items’. Last time you checked, they were close to the expiration date. Remember? Time marches on and now it has expired way past the date.

The Solution?

How about grabbing a plastic grocery bag and doing a 25 Fling ‘THROW AWAY’ Boogie? That’s right. It isn’t glamorous. In fact it can be down right boring.

My question is, do we always have to have something to stimulate us and make us think so hard? I am finding out I don’t. In fact one of the things I am asking new members and anyone that wants to get involved is to do the 25 Fling ‘THROW AWAY’ Boogie 5 days a week. Yes I am right in there with the rest.

We as a group have been doing this for 3 weeks now and I am telling you, I am seeing a difference in my home. I have been surprised at some of the things that are laying around unnoticable but in fact is trash.

Habit # 1 The Easy Way To Get Dressed To Shoes!

Exercise Days

*Part of a 10 week series. To get involved join the Facebook group Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! System To Remove Clutter & CHAOS

Some may wonder, what are FLYing clothes?  It is simple.  It is something you feel comfortable in wearing while you are FLYing. The purpose is to get you out of your pajamas that tells your mind to slumber rather than FLY.  So what I am going to do is give you some pictures of FLYing clothes that I have worn.

Your FLYing Clothes Are Determined By What You Are Doing For That Particular Day.

For example:   I am putting exercise into my FLYing at least 3 times a week.  They are not old worn out sweats.  I have 3 workout outfits that I wear that includes jackets.  Nothing fancy. Each piece from Walmart $10.00 a piece.  I layer with a sports bra and top with thin straps.  If I need to run to the store that is only 11 miles away, I can easily do it wearing the outfit.  I can also clean/FLY in it.  So now I know what 3 out of 7 outfits I am wearing for the week.
Errand Day
One day is Errand Day.  I usually wear nice jeans and a nice top.  One day is Renew Your Spirit Day and I wear a nice pair of slacks and top to church.  This leaves me with 2 days left.  What do I wear? I wear clothes that I feel comfortable in.  For me it is side elastic jeans and a top or a sports bra and top with skinny straps with a jacket over it.  That completes 7 days for me.  If there is something I am working on that I am afraid I might stain a top, I pull out my work shirt to cover any spills.  I also have an apron I will put on if I think I will get dirty.

Renew Your Spirit Day
In A Nutshell, FLYing Clothes Are The Ones In Between Your Good Clothes And Your Grunge Clothes.  It Is The Type Of Clothing That You Won’t Feel Bad Wearing When An Old Friend Shows Up At Your Door Or Running To The Store Quick To Pick Something Up And You Run Into An Old Boyfriend.  You Have To Keep One Set Of Grunge Clothes For Certain Jobs.  I Call Them My Painting Clothes.  They Aren’t Super Grungy.  They Have Paint On Them Because I Am Painting.
Apron To Protect Your Clothes
I hope this explains what FLYing Clothes are.  I had a problem at first and if you notice in any of my Individual Photos when I was doing the challenge “Getting Dressed To Shoes, Hair and Makeup”  It was tops and bottoms with a shirt.  It is as simple as this.  So please take a chance on the FLYing side and get out of your pajamas and “Get Dressed To Shoes!”

Decluttering Your Home Out Of The Depths Of CHAOS

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was a ‘Magic Pill’ that would solve the problem of ‘Clutter’ and ‘CHAOS’? I believe all of us would take it as if it were a vitamin and yet… How many of us take a daily vitamin?

Example Of Taking A Daily Vitamin

Sounds simple enough, doesn’t it? And yet many have great intentions only to be stopped cold because one cannot make a decision as to which company to trust. Therefore, nothing happens.

Example Of Finding The Right System To Help You Remove Clutter And CHAOS From Your Home

Never has there been a time where so many are willing to offer what they think will work for you by means of getting your home in order. And that is where the problem lays. There are too many of them just like too many vitamin companies. It paralyzes us and nothing gets done.

The sad part of this is that in our quest, it ends up consuming too much of our time. Goals in life are missed because of this.

I created Marilyn’s Way Dance Till You FLY! To Remove Clutter And CHAOS. So what is so different from mine to others?

Habits

Habits turn into routines, routines turn into rewards = 3 R’s

Lily Is Home!

The past 10 days have been a roller coaster at Marilyn’s Way. It started off with a mini getaway with my cousin to coming back and making an emergency call to Lily’s veterinarian Dr. Andrea Hennen at 2 AM Monday morning.

It took a 48 hour trip to notice something was wrong with her. She began to stumble with her back legs. In fact she had done something similar right before I went on my trip. I thought it was her toe nails and clipped them. She seemed to walk fine.

If Our 4 Legged Friends Could Talk

When one sees them day in and day out, it makes it difficult to see a change in them. Lily is being treated for congestive heart failure. Lily also has had bad teeth her entire life. A couple of weeks ago I did notice the smell of her breath changing for the worse.

Making Things Worse

The problem was that she has never been known to let anyone fuss over her.  Because of her breed half miniature dachshund and half sheltie she has always been a very strong and quick dog.

The other problem is I got her as a puppy when my Fibromyalgia and Thyroid were at their worst making it difficult for me to train her. I tried to brush her teeth and she fought me all the way.

The final problem was my first dog Meg, LOVED chewies! She was always chewing on one. Because of this, Meg had great teeth. I thought I could get Lily to do the same and she had no interest in it.

Lily’s Diagnosis

Tests showed she had a high sodium level and that needed to come down. They gave her IV’s to get that regulated. Changing her heart medication was also a factor.

Giving Lily The Best Chance At Recovering

Lily had a very bad case of infection and I have now learned that oral health is related to heart disease. The decision was made to remove all teeth that were infected. This came to a total of 14 teeth. She now has 2 teeth remaining that will aide her in chewing. Yes, I knew I needed to get her in for a cleaning. Limited budget kept me from doing it. Then time got away.

Lily remains on antibiotics, heart medication and fluid pills. She is improving daily. So happy she is home and I get another chance with her.

Thank you all for your support at this time. It gave me strength to correct the situation and to now enjoy what time Lily has left before going to Rainbow Bridge.

Inheriting A Weigela Shrub

Timing Is Everything!

I knew I was inheriting a Weigela. I just didn’t know when. The church I belong to decided to remove the bushes simply because of the maintenance issue.  One of the shrubs is a weigela. Every spring I admire it and had placed it on my ‘wish list’. I was intending to buy one but if I can get one that is also ‘Blessed’, why not?

The lawn maintenance is done by church members.  This means after work or farm chores are done. Last night around 7 PM they came in to remove the shrubs. I was up to my neck in fertilizing my tomatoes and peppers in my vegetable garden.

I also had other projects going that needed to be followed through. I placed the weigela in a bucket of water until I was through.

A couple hours later I was finished. I knew I had to get the shrub into the ground before I went to bed but I needed a break! It was already dark and I knew I would have to be planting it by a trouble light. So I took an hour break.

*Before I go any further let me clarify something. Yes I live with Fibromyalgia and Arthritis with a disc degeneration in my back.  I am disabled and cannot work a regular 40 hour job. It doesn’t however keep me from not doing anything.

*Gardening is a love of mine. It keeps my mind off of the daily pain I experience by redirecting my thoughts on gardening resulting in beauty. Who doesn’t love beauty? I have been called a ‘work horse’ and I do love to be involved in things. What you don’t hear in my writing all the breaks I have to take during the day. I have to decide on the number of spoons and the size of them. I don’t always get it right and end up paying for it.

Planting My Weigela By A Trouble Light

I ended up taking an hour and a half break before I was going to attack this project. It was around midnight. I have a trouble light and knew I was planting it near my home so I had electricity to use. Note: I am sure glad I live in a small town! I didn’t have to explain to an officer that I wasn’t digging a hole to bury a body! I just had to get this shrub in if I wanted to save it.

The ground was rock hard. In order to get this done at I watered it down. It made digging with my potato fork easier but I created another problem – MUD! The following are my steps to create a new home for the weigela shrub…

Finding the best place.
Finding the best place.
Let the digging begin!

Look at the size of those roots!

An hour later I was able to place the weigela shrub into it’s new home and give it a good watering.
ws5gmw
These flowers are why I fell in love with this shrub.
ws6gmw
If you think it was an easy job, I am telling you it wasn’t. I fought the clay dirt that turned to mud. No leg squats in the gym for me! I was getting plenty of exercise carrying all the extra mud. Wearing my rubbers over my lace up shoes helped me get the job done easier.
ws7gmw
Looks like it didn’t experience much transplant shock by looking at it this morning.
ws8gmw
This is the general area I planted the shrub. As you can see another project going on in the background. I decided to add to my fence another 8 feet. Got that done this morning. Will have a blog about that soon.

Am I gardening like the experts would want you  to? Probably not. When I decided to get back into gardening I decided I was going to let go of ‘Perfectionism and Procrastination’. This is the reason I call my blog/website ‘Marilyn’s Way To Home & Garden’.  What this really means is learn to garden ‘Your Way’.  Sure you will have some hits and misses. Isn’t that what life is all about? Go ahead, do it your way and enjoy yourself!

3 Reasons For Eggshells In The Garden

I somehow knew there was a reason I accepted the challenge to be a Hostess on Sundays from my cousin Julie Lardy who is the manager for IHop Restaurant in town.

One of her cooks offered to save the used eggshells from the restaurant so I could use them in my garden!

3 Reasons To Use Eggshells In The Garden

  1. Tomatoes and Peppers LOVE the extra calcium. If you have ever experienced ‘Blossom End Rot’ the reason is the soil is lacking calcium. Eggshells will help.
  2. Problems with Deer visiting your garden? Deer hate the smell of eggshells and will visit gardens without.
  3. What about those slimy ‘Slugs’? They hate to crawl over the crushed eggshells.

3 Ingredients I Used When Planting Tomatoes And Peppers

This spring I wanted to try an experiment with epsom salt, used coffee grounds and crushed eggshells when I planted my tomatoes and peppers. You can read how I did it in Planting Tomatoes & Peppers Amended With Coffee Grounds, Crushed Eggshells, & Epsom Salt.

The three ingredients I used.
The three ingredients I used.
Tomato plant with three ingredients - eggshells, coffee grounds, epsom salt.
Tomato plant with three ingredients – eggshells, coffee grounds, epsom salt.

This season my biggest offense are deer entering my vegetable garden. I plan to take the eggshells and put around my sweet potatoes and also along my beets. Not only will it add calcium to the soil, the deer may see it as a sign…

Wouldn't it be nice if they could read?
