Perfectionism and Procrastination! The Power They Seem To Have Over Us!

Time Constraint Tasks

I don’t know why we think some of the things we have to do that are on a time constraint are always so difficult.  The only thing I can come up with is we magnify the task in our minds to the point that we will be doing it forever.  It really is something the way the mind likes to work on you.

Yesterday I was going to do the slicing of the cabbage from my garden and use my mom’s sealamatic.  Well before I knew it, the time was 9pm and that isn’t something I want to start on.  So would you say I was exercising my Procrastinating ways?  Yup, you got me there.

Now it is Wednesday and that means Anti Dilly Dally Day.  I did get the cabbage picked from the garden.  I will show you a picture of it in this blog.   It really is pretty.  I also have another one I picked.  It just was not as pretty.

Perfectionism Sneaks In!

Tells Procrastination To Let Her Sweat!

It is 8pm and I haven’t started.  Sometimes I can’t believe the energy I can wrap up into a simple project.  It is that darn perfectionism that sneaks in and tells procrastination to let her sweat.  What is it with these two?  Do they really get a kick out of us struggling with these two action words?  Come on, they are just words and look at all the troubles they like to bring.

Well tonight I know it is 9pm but I have decided I am NOT going to let either of these words get the better of me!  I am going to do this project now and time myself.  I am sure it will surprise me.  It usually does.

I am very proud of this head of cabbage!

All washed up and ready to slice up to freeze and use for soups.

My mom was kind enough to let me borrow her sealamatic.  Thanks Mom!  I know this will be on my wish list !

Cabbage is in the bag and ready to remove all the air out and seal it for one of those soup kind of days.

Worked just like Mom said it would!  I will share some with you as I know you LOVE Soup!

I got 9 quart sized bags from 2 heads of cabbage.  The container in the background has now been named my compost container and it is emptied and cleaned and ready to be used again!

The Amount Of Time It Took To Do?

And the time for me to do this while two dogs looked on hoping it was food they liked every time I put some cabbage in the bag to seal?

It took just 45 minutes and that includes cleaning up and putting away.

I ask this.  Procrastination, why do you have to be so mean?   Procrastination tells me it isn’t her.  It’s Perfectionism that keeps holding you back.  So who are you going to believe?  It is certainly a toss up.

Don’t Believe Either One!

Instead, ‘Dance Till You FLY!’  What does that mean? Forget about the experts way they tell you to do something. More than likely there is a ‘Product’ they want you to buy that generates income for them.  Do they really have your best interest at heart? That is why  I say to do it ‘Your Way’.

What ‘Marilyn’s Way’ Means

What ‘Marilyn’s Way’ means is for You to find ‘Your Own Way’ of doing things. Make a decision to start doing this. Get yourself a ‘Notebook And A Pen Or Pencil’. Use it as a scratch pad to try different ways of doing things until you find what fits for You!

Your Time Is Valuable

Don’t let the internet suck up ‘Your Time’ searching for the ‘Perfect Way’.  Instead pull out your ‘Notebook’ and begin a Brain Dump Session Using Problem/Solution Method. At least by the end of it you will have a better idea of what you want.

And What About Perfectionism And Procrastination?

Kick them both to the curb! You see, the sooner you reveal to yourself what you like and what works for you with the help of your trusty notebook,  the sooner ‘Perfectionism And Procrastination’ loses its power over you.

Keep FLYing!
Marilyn
