Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around

Stevie Nicks had a hit single in 1981 named Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.  If you are a baby boomer you probably already heard that Fleetwood Mac is making a comeback with a tour kicking off September 30th in Minneapolis this year.

That would make sense why Jimmy Fallon had Stevie Nicks on the The Tonight Show last night.  Jimmy loves to recreate events and that is what he did last night with Stevie Nicks.  Jimmy played the role of Tom Petty and performed with Stevie Nicks 1981 hit single Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.  Click on the video above.

So what else happened in 1981?  I decided to google it and found some interesting things I would like to share with you.

Remember the movie Argo directed by Ben Affleck he starred in and won an award for a couple of years ago?  The movie was based on the six Americans posing as Canadians to get them out of Iran.  In 1981, the rest of the 52 hostages were released after 444 days in captivity.

It is also the first year that the word internet was used by Microsoft and the first IBM- PC.  It was also the first flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia.  Technology was beginning to take off.

None of us can forget the presence of Lady Diana Spencer  marrying Charles The Prince Of Wales.  Many called in sick from work just to watch the pomp and circumstance.

Ronald Reagan became the United States President bringing the charm of Hollywood with him making his speeches come alive.

Determined to find the wreck of the Titanic, researchers found it in the North Atlantic this year.

While Muhammad Ali retires with a career record of 55 wins and 5 defeats, Sandra Day O’Connor is nominated and will become the first female justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.  We can’t forget that it was the year of 1981 that the first American test-tube baby, is born.

Here comes Stevie Nicks with her hit single Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.  I can’t even count the number of times I have sung this song.  It looks like I will again with Jimmy Fallon bringing the song alive again as he has Stevie Nicks on as a guest on the Tonight Show.  Was Jimmy Carson still hosting the show at the time in 1981?  What would he think of the show today?  He loved playing skits as well.

If you want to learn more about things that happened, go to The Year 1981 From The People History.  You will be surprised at the changes in prices of homes and average incomes.  We are a society that loves to progress and there were lots of things in 1981.

Thank you for reading another ‘It All Comes Down To… This And That’.  Maybe you already knew most of what I shared.  Then again, you might be like me and learned a few new things.  I do know one thing.  I spent many hours singing the 1981 hit from Stevie Nicks, Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.

  1. Wow, I’m starting to feel old! Thank you for the throwback to the 80s. I miss the 80s and 90s when, at least in my microcosm, life was pretty safe and secure. It’s a different world today that my young kiddos have to navigate. What would you post about for the 90s?
