MARILYN’S WAY Paperwork Day, Car & Purse Boogie, and Date Night. I am calling last night my Date Night as we celebrated my mom’s birthday at Applebee’s. It was a fun night! I don’t get to spend much time with my brothers and when I do it is recall time of some of the things we would get into. One was being locked in an upstairs bathroom. My brother locked the door but then couldn’t get it unlocked. So a great aunt had to come over with her ladder to hand me the pliers so I could get the door open all the while my little brother was say, “What are we going to do?” repeatedly, and then once we were rescued it was, “I’m never going to do that again!” We were around 5 years old at the time.
How many times have we been in a similar situation when it comes to our homes? Our phrases are more like, “Where Do I Start?” and “I’m Never Going To Let It Get This Messy Again!” Somehow it happens again. Why? Because we have never really learned the importance of establishing habits that turn into routines. We are too busy in the “Crisis Cleaning Mode.”
How do we stop this? We can begin by practicing the Monthly Habit. April is “Make Your Bed.” Go about your day the best you can. Just promise yourself you will do each month’s habit as they come. Then build upon them. Will this all happen in a month for you? No. Will it possible work in a year from now? Yes. The next question is, “Can I wait that long?” Obviously what we have been doing isn’t working. We know this because we have found ourselves here. This is what I did. Come January 2011, I made a decision to just focus on the monthly habits as they come each month and build upon them. I went about my business and did other things but I always made sure I did the monthly habit daily and all the previous ones. Somehow it worked! I know I can tell you to do this and to do that. Where we really learn is by doing and then making the evaluation for ourselves. That is what I did in 2011 and feel I am a better person for it and you can be too!
Keep FLYing!
