The day was yesterday. I babysat my four year old great nephew and it is always a different adventure each time. This day the stakes were high and I was being challenged.
The first three hours we do well together. I can’t blame him for the last two hours. By this time he is all sugared up! I bought him orange push pops and expects them to be there. I do have cheese sticks and yogurt he likes but my supplies were dwindling as I need a trip to the grocery store. So in my group I am reaching out to all the mommies for advice.
I couldn’t think of anything but make rice crispy bars to make together. More sugar. I am so glad that I started out with a sink full of hot soapy water. I hadn’t made rice crispy bars in years! I forgot how sticky it can be. So on top of two orange push ups, he had 2 rice crispy bars and he was keeping busy. I got a phone call that I had to take. I didn’t hear any noise in the living room and had the TV on Spongebob Squarepants so I figured he was watching that. When I got off the phone he had my brand new can of Pledge Multi Surface for dusting in his hand. I had another situation that I needed to use the spray. I got off the phone and he was carrying around the can of Pledge and he handed it to me. It was completely empty! I shook my head and he knew he had done wrong but I calmly asked where he sprayed it. He says, “No you will get mad.” I told him I wouldn’t and asked just to show me so he did. He pointed out the areas. Some was the wall in my bedroom and he sprayed the dressers with it and a little piano keyboard I haven’t had the courage to find out if it has been ruined. It could just need new batteries. So I said, “Well we can’t just spray it on and not dust it so I gave him a dusting mitt and let him go to town.
Back to my sink. I have learned when I cook especially pots and pans when they are empty to immediately wash them, dry them and put away. This time I had a distraction and it was the story I just told you.
I had to rest after he left. I needed a break. I did what I call ‘The Scoop’ and picked up toys that didn’t get picked up. He was too far gone in sugar land and I was a contributor to this.
Once I rested I had to check my notifications from my groups on Facebook. This took about an hour of my time. I was hungry and would heat up the rest of my Tator Tot Casserole I had made the night before. I needed some comfort food. That’s when I realized I still had the kettle in soaking in the sink and now the water was cold. I ate my casserole in which that dish is now emptied and needed to be washed. It had to be soaked a bit from the baked on food.
I put a load of very wet towels from the bathing adventure into the washing machine, laid out my clothes for today and finished catching up on Facebook. The time flew by and it was midnight. I was exhausted and I still needed to wash the kettle and the pan so I could shine my sink. I contemplated and seriously thought I would leave them for the morning. Just this once. I mulled it around in my head as I put the towels in the dryer. Then I got to thinking. I have been shining my sink every night since December 25, 2010 and it would simply look strange to walk into my kitchen this morning and not see a shiny sink. I thought how long is this actually going to take? Just think about it. Five minutes? What is five minutes out of twenty four hours? Nothing! So I washed the two items up, dried them, put away and SHINED MY SINK! THE END! Today I woke up tired but it was nice to see my sink shining back at me when I poured my first cup of coffee of the day. Now that’s some dancing I had to do to FLY last night and I am so proud of myself for not giving in. Preparation will be made for my next adventure with my great nephew that will be Thursday and I am going to be ready!

It has a very easy trigger spray and that is why I bought it because of my fibromyalgia. It works great for four year old boys as well! |

HAHA Marylin! This sounds like a typical day with a 4 year old! Better snack planning should help next time!
