Picking Up and Putting Away is like Laundry or even Dishes.  The number one reason we don’t do this is because we feel we don’t have time.  Or is it?

I hear flybabies over and over again about Mount Washmore.  I started asking if this pile of clothes they are talking about are dirty or clean.  Majority say they are clean.  Then why are they piled up?

For some reason when most wash clothes they think only washing and drying.  Most will forget about folding, hanging and putting away.  Why?  How about because their dressers and closets are overstuffed with clothes that don’t fit or don’t wear.  Why is it so hard to let go of these things?  Memories.  Memories of fun, memories of feeling bad that it was a bad purchase, memories of buying it a size smaller for motivation to lose weight.  And so these memories stay in the version as objects.  Objects that take up space.  In this case it is clothes.  They get stuffed away in closets and drawers.

I am actually enjoying the process of laundry.  I enjoy all of the steps.  They are all necessary for me to get dressed to shoes, hair and makeup.  What did I have to do in order to complete all the steps of sorting, washing, drying, folding and putting away?  I had to free up space.  The only way I was going to do this is a major declutter campaign that is followed all the way through to dropping off the donated items at drop off locations.

Top Reasons We Don’t Put Things Away When We Are Done

We don’t think we have time.


We have never established a home for the item to begin with.


We don’t have things grouped for specific jobs.


The main reason is that we don’t take what we are working on to the area where the tools are.  Sometimes we can’t.  The majority of times we can.


Number one reason is we don’t feel the importance of what we are doing as a multiple step process.  


And that my friends is how we get into this mess in the first place.  Allow yourself time to follow the steps all the way through.  You can do it!!
