Lily’s Bath Time The Flylady Way

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

It’s no secret we have been in a rain mode these past few days.  We got some heavy rain and that spells MUD.  Lily is pretty good at letting me wipe her feet when I let her in from outside.  That’s if she is out there for just a little while!

It finally quit raining and out came the squirrels and the birds.  I really don’t know at this point who starts their daily dance.  All I know is the longer Lily is out there, the muddier she will be.  Out of frustration to try to catch a bird or squirrel, she does what anyone would do and is make sure she has a solid foundation when she is ready to go for it.

You know how baseball players are digging a spot to get the best footing for the home run?  That’s what Lily does except her footing isn’t sandy.  It is mud, the sticky pasty kind.  She is dachsund so she has the paws and the toenails.  Daschsunds were bred for chasing badgers out of their holes and badgers have some long claws.

You would think Lily would get smart and realize she can’t catch either one of them.  The thing is that a few years back Lily almost caught a squirrel.  This squirrel was eating seeds off of the tree and I guess the squirrel didn’t have his footing because down he fell.   Lily was tied to a leash and she stretched as far as she could to catch that squirrel but to no avail.   That squirrel was approximately a hands length from Lily!  I didn’t see this.  My mom did and the reaction Lily had on her face when she looked at Mom was either “Help! or Why?”  I really wished I could have seen this.  Mom said it was hilarious.  If there is even the slightest possibility this may happen again, Lily is going to be ready!

Lily’s Bath Time The Flylady Way

In order to make Lily’s bath time the least stress preparation is the key.  I have to ask myself how I can make it pleasant for both of us.  Some creativity is is thrown into the mix.  I found wearing a rain cape keeps me from getting muddy and/or wet.  I get her scrubb massage shampooing dispenser and her towel ready.  The last thing I do is get the water temperature just right.  I have a hose with a garden sprayer on it connected to my utility sink’s  faucet.  The sprayer has an on and off valve.  All I have to do is squeeze it.

Usually when Lily sees that I have a coat of some type on, she is ready.  She thinks we are going for a ride.  But wait, she thinks, “That isn’t a coat.  That’s the cape she wears when she give me a bath!!!!”  She is hesitant at coming in.  I wonder what goes on in her mind.  Finally she must think, “Ok, let’s get this over with.”

I have to get into the right mindset as well.  Today it is getting easier because I gave this task some thought.  This has paid off.  Now I bathe Lily The Flylady Way.  This entire process including the treat after the bath is only 15 minutes.  Who knew a seemingly and somewhat dreadful (we think things can be) isn’t at all!  Lily and I did it The Flylady Way!
