It has only been a few days since I planted seeds of a variety of flowers. I wasn’t expecting to see any growth yet when I went to check on them in the 4 tier greenhouse.
I was surprised to see some seedlings up! They were the cosmos. They are so tall. Then I remember last year I started cosmos in the heated mini greenhouse with pellets. They were the first up and so far ahead of the rest of the seedlings. I was excited!
Then the worst happened. They got to lanky and dampened off. I lost them. I didn’t understand.
Today when I saw this again, I experienced the same sense of joy followed by the destiny of last years crop. Then I got this moment of clarity! Cosmos germinate faster, therefore the pellets probably aren’t the best route when planting. I lifted one of them out of the tray and couldn’t believe the root system that had started.
If I had any chance at saving them, they are going to have to be transplanted into larger pots. Afterall, a single plant will grow up to 4 feet in height when mature.
What’s the lesson here? It is simple. We all mature at different rates. Some are meant to be tall where others are short. Some appear to be dormant while actually working very hard at establishing roots.
I am reminded of a universal truth. Never judge a book by its cover. Yet so many of us do. Remember, we are all individuals that started as a seed. Now we have matured and just because we have doesn’t mean that we don’t need to take care of ourselves. In fact we do.
I have to remind myself daily not to compare myself to others. Today’s experience validated this universal truth too. I am so glad I was able to receive this experience by just being me.
