What could it honestly be you ask yourself? I asked that question to myself two years ago. It is September’s Habit – Creating A Before Bedtime Routine! Notice I said creating one. This is how I had to do it. I found mine was way too long and started way too late. The combination spelled disaster. So of course I wouldn’t do it.
One thing about we flysisters is we LOVE lists and all the excitement around it. It almost makes one feel special to have all of these things going on. After all, if it is just three or four items to do, we must be boring flysisters or not doing it right.
A very big downfall for all of we flysisters is that we take all of this WAY too seriously. FLYing means Finally Loving Yourself. Don’t make that “work” for you too.
So when does a flysister start her Before Bedtime Routine? Anytime you want! Most flysisters will begin in the afternoon as their laundry is finishing because that just may be what you are wearing for the next day. Check your calendar. That determines what you will be wearing. DONE!
Majority of flysisters will begin after dinner dishes are washed and put away. What did I say? If you start making dinner with filling your sink full of hot soapy water, you can wash as you cook. It is usually the kettles that get to us. There you have half of your dishes done already. Once dinner is over have everyone responsible for their plate and silverware to put into the dishwasher or sink. This gives you the chance to put away any leftovers.
Run your dishwasher or wash your dishes. Wipe down the counters and if you are like me get your coffee ready for the morning. DONE! There, now you have two habits done for your Before Bedtime Routine!
The last step is something you have been doing all of your life. You either shower before bed or just wash face and brush teeth and then get into your jammies. DONE!
Now how difficult was this? Well if you don’t do your Load of Laundry a Day and don’t clean up after making dinner right away, yes then your Before Bedtime Routine will flounder.
Now I want you to ask yourself this. What two habits do I have to concentrate on this month in order to begin creating my Before Bedtime Routine? Well last month our habit was Laundry and hopefully you got into the groove of this.
January was Shine Your Sink and hopefully you have shined it more times than not. The other habit will come easy to make. Before starting dinner, FIRST fill your sink full of hot soapy water. The rest falls into place! You can’t help yourself but wash dishes as you are cooking!
So really the Before Bedtime Routine does not have to be difficult and time consuming. If you can concentrate on these habits I mentioned above as a “Starting Point” to your Before Bedtime Routine. Naturally a few more items are added like “Where are your Keys” and having a “Launching Pad” for all of the items that will be going with you if you are on your way out the door for the day.
I know this looks easy on paper. The point is to try to clear all the busy talk in your head and just focus on this. For some reason I have found is “IF” I do these, all the incidentals fall in place. Trust the process and remember this “Gift You Are Giving Yourself For September” is the beginning of creating a Before Bedtime Routine just for you!
Keep FLYing!
