There Is A Shiny Sink In My Lawnmower!

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

With the help of Jenna and Beth, I got the second clipping of grass mowed.  Or should I say WEEDS.  We had at least an inch of rain last week.  The radishes came up, the peas are barely, the grass grew and the WEEDS really grew.

I guess I should give my lawnmower some credit last week as I was trying to get it going.  Last year was my first year to begin to use Flylady principles in my yard.  There was one thing I overlooked and that was cleaning the undercarriage of the lawnmower.

My lawnmower is self propelled so I always check to clean the weeds and such that get wrapped around the drive shaft.  I have now learned the proper way to tip the lawnmower is back.  That requires two people or a very heavy brick to place on the handle.

Flylady’s principle shine your sink has finally sunk in.  So what is the shiny sink on the lawnmower?  The undercarriage that houses the blade.  There is a back flap for bag mowing and I don’t know what the side one is for.  The point is, those were the only two places I would clean.

Jenna and I took turns mowing.  Beth came later.  So part of the deal is if they help me with things, then they can use my computer to get on Facebook.  I feel kind of bad having to play the bad guy but boundaries are necessary in any relationship.

It was my turn to mow the rest of the yard.  When I was done I lifted the flap and the grass and weed clippings were packed solid.  Last week when I turned the lawnmower on its side which is the incorrect way because oil gets in the air filter and other things happen.  The point is I did scrape the housing while on its side.

The grass did grow rapidly because of the rain.  There was still plenty of moisture too.  Maybe tomorrow would have been a better day to mow.  I heard lawnmowers going in town so I went with it.  I tipped the lawnmower back and saw how the entire housing was packed solid with clippings!  I tried to do it myself.  I am glad Jenna and Beth were here because they could help me.

I walked into the house and said, “I need your help with the lawnmower so time to log off of Facebook.”  Beth stood on the handle as Jenna and I scraped.  I bet it took 15 minutes to do this.  This was a perfect example to teach one about maintenance.  I took pictures to show how much gunk that was cleaned out.  I think it was a lot.

I have learned something new myself.  Part of mowing the yard is cleaning the undercarriage after every use.  Now, my lawnmower will be already to go for the third clipping this year.  It’s like making sure you sink is shined as part of your Before Bedtime Routine so  you can wake up to a shiny sink and begin your day the Flylady Way!

  1. Have you ever thought about taking the spark plugs out? That is what my MIL's friend told her to do. She also said that you can't ever pull those things back. My question is if you have a self-propelled vacuum, do you have to maneuver it the same way? Anyhow, I am glad to see you have that going on. God Bless!

  2. Hey Marylin Your all looking great! Way to go on cleaning that mower, they do get clogged really quickly dont they. Your home and garden look beautiful and idealistic! *hugs* Rogue Chick <3
