Let’s face it. The weather hasn’t been the greatest to be outside and they are calling for rain tomorrow again. Today the conditions were right and I decided to burn my pile of branches from several of my 27 twig boogies. This past Friday my old Poplar Tree fell down due to high winds. I thought I heard a crash but then thought it was just Lily doing her usual barking at her squirrel and bird friends. No, this time it was the tree that made all the noise.
On Friday my neighbors Beth and her mom Gloria came to help me get what we could off of the road. That is why my pile really grew. You see, this is where my garden goes and it has to be cleaned up in order for it to be tilled. I haven’t had a garden in 5 or 6 years and I am looking forward to it. I know every thing’s going to have to be done at once. It just seems that way with this weather system we are having. Tonight on South Dakota Public Television they have the show Garden Line. It is South Dakota Master Gardeners. You may have something similar in your area. I watched it when I was gardening before and really learned a lot. Will be interesting what they talk about tonight.
Today was just what I needed too. You know what I mean. Starting to get bored with the same thing every day. Knowing there is plenty to do in the house but just can’t get into it.
The fresh air and sunshine was great. I was also able to visit with my neighbor boy. We each had a freeze pop. Last year his favorite color was green. This year it is blue raspberry. My aunt stopped when she saw me outside and we had a nice visit. She had been out with my mom and other lady friends for lunch. It was a great feeling just being neighborly.
The point I am making is change is good and variety is good for the soul. I enjoyed checking my flowers to see what stage they were in. It is fun to watch them adapt as the weather changes. There is a movie called “Adaptation” It is a movie about Orchids. Nicholas Cage, Chris Cooper and Meryl Streep are in it. I believe it won some awards. The movie gets you interested in gardening. It did me.
I decided to calculate the size of my flower garden by walking it to measure. It is 20′ x 25′. My mom planted most of it and I am hoping she will come out here to show me what are flowers and what are weeds. I have hostas in that garden and plan to divide them and put under my two 53 year old Evergreen Trees in front of my house. They are supposed to grow well there. That has always been a problem area and I am hoping to make a nice presentation because it is an extension of Zone 1 The Entrance to my home. Until next time!
Keep Flying!
