Zone 2 The Vegetable Garden Is Tilled! What’s Next?

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

I am just elated that my vegetable garden is tilled!  I haven’t had one for at least 5 years so probably will need some preparations to it.

Funny thing is this is the week for working on the vegetable garden.  I designated Zone 2 to correlate with the Kitchen according to Flylady.   It just seemed to make sense.  Will this approach work?  I am hoping so.  Like anything else one must try things out to know what will work.  I am sure Flylady has had some trial runs before she found a way for her system to work for all of us.

The trick is to make this fun and simple.  Without these ingredients it will just be another chore.  I am not looking for that approach.  Instead, I am looking for it as a way to spend time outside in the sun and fresh air.  Many things will be gained just doing this.

The biggest thing that I am looking for is Vitamin D.  I found a blog that has wonderful information as to how deficiency of  Vitamin D3 and Fibromyalgia can be connected.  Having Fibromyalgia, I deal with pain on a daily basis.  It gets in the way of so many things.  I can’t change the fact that I have this.  I can only look for ways to make it easier and less painful.  That is why the interest of vitamin D and pain levels are connected.  I would much rather take vitamin D and spend time outside in the sunshine than to take pain pills.

The other thing that really interested me was that Vitamin D and obesity.  Vitamin D is stored in ones fat cells.  The more fat cells a person has, the more of the Vitamin D is taken out of circulation.  I did not know that!

That leads me to the next thing.  It is about getting back in shape in fun ways.  We all have a difficult time exercising if it is just exercising.  When an enjoyable activity such as gardening is added one can’t help but get into shape.  That would mean less fat cells, more muscles and muscles burn fat, therefore one will not have to take high doses of Vitamin D.

The last thing that is so great about having a garden is that one gets out of isolation!  Living in the Midwest our winters seem to be longer.  Gardening season is great fellowship.  If we want to spend time outdoors, we must find things to do that are fun.  For me, I am choosing gardening.  Today, I was outside for a couple hours and in that time I interacted with 10 different people being neighborly friendly.  How did that make me feel?  It made me feel great.  Who knew gardening could be so much fun?

My vegetable garden plot is like a clean slate just waiting for wonderful things to happen!  I have already benefited joy just watching the Robins feeding on worms and bugs.  Tonight, they don’t have to work so hard for their food!

  1. I have sad too and had stayed indoors from the heat in the past five summers because I was sick and that is what got me in trouble with Vitamin D3 deficiency. I am hoping to get my levels to normal this year. I get tested for it this month.

  2. I appreciate the information about the vit. D. I have SAD (ironically named, isn't it?) and I think I should get out more. Our house is dark. I think it will help with the energy
