To Declutter A House; Nothing Beats A 25 Fling Boogie!

But I thought it was 27 Fling Boogie!  This is what Flylady suggests and what I learned.  However, since I have my own blog I thought it would be fun to change the boogie to Marilyn’s Way “25 Fling Boogie!”  Why 25?  Simply because my birthday is 7/25/59.  That’s all.

I found an article written about this that I agree with everything but the order in which one does each 25 Fling Boogie.

There are three parts of a 25 Fling Boogie.  You can do all three parts at once or break them up or just do one of the three.  Whichever you do you are ahead.

Whenever I am having difficultly with my habits and routines, I turn to the “25 Fling Boogie.”  Here are the three stages:

First, you go through your house with an empty trash bag and fling 25 items to “Throw Away.”  By choosing this step “first” it gets you up and moving about.  There usually is less emotional attachment to these.  Take out to the trash immediately.  Done!

Second, go through your house with a box lined with a trash bag or box for “Give Away.”  Find 25 things you can “Give Away.”  You can also get Flylady‘s Declutter Kit that says Throw Away, Give Away, and Put Away.  I have these and they work great.  I can line them with the larger leaf bags.  The “Give Away” part has some emotion to it.  Many times as you get going, you will find things you wondered why you kept.  Bless it out to the world.  When you have collected 25 items, box it or bag it up and immediately take to your vehicle.  Done!

Third, go through your home with a box or container looking for 25 items to “Put Away.”  Why do I like this to be the last part of my 25 Fling Boogie?  Because, the reason that it didn’t get “Put Away” in the first place is that where it would logically go is full of clutter itself.  By waiting to do this as the last part, you just may find some newly aquired space to house it.

I know it is much better since I decluttered my desk drawers.  There isn’t lots in there and I want to keep it that way because I have found I am getting more done!
Keep FLYing!
Marilyn

I added a “Mini Put Away” for the obvious things I use everyday that may have been left  out.  It works for me!

  1. I like your logic about the order, and I missed the part about doing a fling of each category separately. I think the hardest is the "give away" pile, because it has the good stuff that has memories attached – the kids' clothes that were nicer, (able to eBay but I never got to it) and the favorite toys (How many of these do I keep for my young adults?). I have such a hard time giving away Barbie, but it has to happen. LEGOS are keepers, and the best Barbie doll, but the rest needs to go, including the Easy Bake oven my mom saved from my childhood. Got to suck it up and forget the garage sale and eBay plans that never fit into my world! Thanks for a great post!

  2. TY! Might not fling 25 but if I can manage 5 per room it is a blessing…made my own declutter kits not as glamous as yours but I am going for progress not eye appeal. If I can fill the trash can more than once a week….THAT is Progress! If I can take one leaf bag of treasures to GW once a week….That is progress! Isn't that a great word?

  3. Wow, what an inspiration you all are. Any sugesstion's on a great garage sale would be appreiciated. I moved into my Mom's(mum)miss u Mom,almost a year ago. there is so much!!I actually pay 135.00 a month for a storage from my other home, thankfully rented. I am a widow, and have lost all my family in the 6 year's.
Tomarrow morning is fling morning, right after my coffee. Thank you all for the inspiration from your live's.. Cathy

  4. I've just ordered the declutter kit. I have wanted to buy it for so long. I kept saying I could make my own but that nasty perfectionism would not let me. I know using it everyday for 15 minutes is going to help me get out of chaos and help me fly.
