MARILYN’S WAY Antiprocrastination Day, Refrigerator Boogie, Meal Planning, Partial Desk Day, Shine Your Sink, Declutter 15 Minutes A Day, Load of Laundry A Day. You want to know what is so great about all of the above? I feel I am doing a great job of all of these habits! Some are stronger than others and notice how I said this. I was about to say some are weaker than others and I don’t like the way I feel when I say this. I don’t even have to list how I feel because we all know the feeling. Instead, today I choose the first sentence because something like keeping my sink shined since December 25, 2010 is an accomplishment in my book. I do well with antiprocrastination day. Come to think of it, I do well with all of these habits. Each are at different levels and why complain about this? They are getting done!

What is going on in Lily’s mind right now? I haven’t quite figured out the possibilities. Maybe you will have a better idea and would love to hear from you. Did you know after 345 Days of Getting Dressed To Shoes, Hair and Makeup, she continues to get excited when I put on my lace up shoes. I wonder if she will ever not. Today I am going to the Field House or gym at the school. It is amazing the difference in how I am feeling since Monday. Monday I was so apprehensive to go. Today I can’t wait to go! Some would look at as wasting gas because I am not working. My new word is: “Poppycock!” This gives me a chance to get away from my home and socialize with another group of people. These are people interested in health. Today will be a fun adventure. I am going at 4:30pm and so I will be mixing with high school kids. I wish Kimmie I could swing by and pick you up! I know we would have a blast!

I am now looking at 21 Days left to One Year. So I chose Leap Year to do this. Would I have taken the challenge if I knew I had to do one more day to accomplish a year? I didn’t even know it was Leap Year until we were into 2012! So I am going to say yes. Also it takes 21 days to create a habit. This is what all the books say. From my experience I would like the experts to define this better for me. Days 8 and 9 were extremely difficult. That is why I had to up the anty for myself and begin to post pictures that the challenge was only to last for 31 Days. Would you like to know my opinion of 21 days to create a habit? Well I will tell you for those that want to know. At 21 days I was doing it getting dressed to shoes hair and makeup. It wasn’t automatic yet. It was still a concentrated effort. This is what has been my experience and it is in no way meant to discourage you. Instead, I want you all to learn to live in the area of being realistic. Why? Because life happens. That is why.
Keep FLYing!

  1. That is wonderful!! I don't always get dressed the minute my feet hit the floor. I usually take my medication and eat breakfast and let my dog Lily out, plug in the flat iron. I have fibromyalgia and many times when I wake up I start out with pain. Once my medication begins to work I get dressed to shoes hair and makeup. The trick to this and how I have made this work for me is I only allow myself to be in my pajama's at this time. I made a deal with myself and to never do any housework in my pajamas again because if I would allow myself this I know I would slip into my old ways and this challenge I took upon myself has been the best medicine for me and want to continue.

I am sorry about your situation. I am sure many adjustments are taking place. What you told me is great! Getting him situated in the bathroom and then going to your bathroom to get ready is what we call piggybacking or associating two tasks together or linking two things together so it becomes like peanut butter and jelly (metaphor)

Today pick out 3 outfits that you will wear for the both of you today and separate them from the rest of your clothes. This is what will get you to days 2,3, & 4. Then pick out 3 outfits on Day 4 for days 5,6,& 7. Day 7 it is very important to pick out three outfits. I am telling you this from my experience only and that is Days 8,9 & 10 were difficult days for me because the newness was wearing off and self sabotage is just waiting in the back drop. On Day 10 is when I started posting photos to keep me going.

Now when you are ready, do the same thing when getting ready for bed. Set him up to do his before bedtime routine and go to your bathroom and do your before bedtime routine. Soon it will be just like peanut butter and jelly. If you can get these habits working they will take you very far. Get comfortable with them and make them the priority. THEN you add on. If you are having trouble with this it means you have taken on too much for you. What I have learned is if we can get a couple daily habits that become routines, the world opens up for us.
    I am proud of you!!

  2. Day one.. I was up at 7:00, but was not dressed to the shoes until 8:00 because of the other tasks that must be done. I really like advice on getting dressed and think it will help.
I have also taken a hospital tub and put his toothbrush, toothpaste, listerine in it. When I get him situated in his bathroom, I hand him a warm washcloth and the tub, then I am able to go into my bathroom, wash my face, brush my teeth and comb my hair. Who says this can't be done.

  3. The best advice I can tell you is to declutter your clothes and start out by picking 3 outfits. Sounds like all your attention is on him now and one decision hardly anyone wants to make when they get up is what to wear. I found pull on jeans with elastic and some with side elastic. They stay comfortable through out the day. For tops it is anywhere from tank tops so I can layer to long sleeve knit tops. AND I finally got all of my like tops(tank tops) and short sleeve t shirts in one drawer and then I have dark bottoms/jeans below that and light colored jeans and capri pants in the drawer underneath and what a difference it has made for me. I finally had to just take everything from those 3 drawers out and start over and am glad I did. Keeping your sink shined or empty is the other thing and to always stay focused on the basic habits even though they aren't that exciting. It takes you far. Thank you for commenting!

  4. I have been watching you for almost a year with your little card with its number, but as yet I have not got on the bandwagon, at least not getting dressed to the shoes and make-up. I had been doing it off and on and then DH became wheelchair bound. I know that is not me, so I could wake earlier and get that done before he is awake. After he is awake, it is always him, him, him. Well, here goes….I am definitely a night person so we will have to see when I start waking up early. I will have to quit staying up until 11:00 after I put him to bed at 9:30. It can be done, don't ever tell me it can't. I will let you know how it goes.
