Habit #3 – What’s For Dinner?

Posted on Posted in Cha Cha Cha, Chaos, Flying with Fibromyalgia, Habits, Marilyns Way, Routines

The question we ask ourselves daily.  ‘What’s For Dinner?’  Usually we are asking ourselves this question too late in the day.  This sets us on a collision course of eating junk food quick meals, eating too late, and keeps us from finishing our ‘Nine Habits Each Day Every Day.’

I am guilty of this.  I do manage to get my kitchen cleaned up with the sink shining but it does mess with me getting to bed at a decent hour.

Why is the question, ‘What’s For Dinner’ so difficult?  Simply because it is better served as a habit that needs planning.  Planning is one of our weaknesses.  I am guilty of it in other areas as well.  One can’t plan some of the time.  One needs to plan all of the time.

Currently I am doing well with planning.  I have my Franklin Covey Planner I have used since 1994.  I love how my days go when I am using the planner daily.

I have never had much trouble with the ‘What’s For Dinner?’ because one day I stopped everything and made a list of three recipes of tried and simple for each meal of the day.  I have a listing of three different meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  That is nine meals.

I have never enjoyed meal planning.  It is just me.  I am sure it would be a different story if I had a family to feed each day.  Still I had to come up with something to make my days go smoother and by having three meals in queue for each meal of the day and to have the ingredients on hand, it has made my meal planning easier.  Making dinner early is another story and am working on that.  One day I hope for an ‘Aha’ moment to this habit.  It just hasn’t come yet.  I am also not giving up.

If you have trouble with ‘What’s For Dinner?’ make a list of three meals for each of the meals of the day and see if meal planning goes better for you.
