Oh No! My Soaker Hose Sprang A Gusher!

Posted on Posted in Flying with Fibromyalgia, Gardening, Marilyns Way

Yes, this is what I woke up to this morning.  My soaker hose was gushing like Old Faithful in Wyoming.  I thought, now what am I going to do?  I had laid the hoses out nicely before planting and covered with landscape fabric.  The landscape fabric was something new I wanted to try to keep weeds down.

You know that instant feeling while you are pulling out your hair.  I am going to have to rip this up and get another hose!  What a mess this will be!  The whole purpose was to make my garden as easy and uncomplicated as possible.  That way I would get a break between putting the gardens in and harvesting them.

Then I came to my senses.  Wait a minute, I can’t be the only one that has ever gone through this.  I had some ideas of my own.  If only I could find that really industrial strength duck tape my brother gave me.  I didn’t know if it was a hole or a slice.  I just saw it gushing water out of it.

I decided I had better go check it out.  I turned the water off and put my sandles on.  There was so much water I decided going barefoot was the best method because after all, I laid landscape fabric down.  When I finally found it, I also found the cause.  Apparently last year when I rolled it up it got a kink in it. Since it is a soaker hose and I have very hard water with lots of chemicals, it made sense.  I sort of remember seeing that kink as I rolled it out this spring but thought it would work itself out.  Actually it did but not the good way.

The next thing I thought, why not Google it and see what I come up with?  So this is what I did and one of my ideas was on there but included plastic as well.  There were other solutions but would require me to go to town and didn’t feel like going.  If this works it will be solved.  Afterall it is a soaker hose and if it leaks a little bit that is okay.
Happy Gardening!

Got my supplies of paper towels, shrink wrap plastic, knife, and duct tape.
Glad I took my sandals off and that I was standing on landscape fabric.  It was kind of  fun!  Felt like a little kid playing in the water and mud!
Now just cover it back up with the landscape fabric.
There you have it! I also used my motto I have been saying all gardening season long.  That is “Done Is Better Than Perfect!”  Now to hang my clothes on the clothesline.  I hope I don’t see a gusher!  I am staying positive that I won’t!
