Plastic Containers AND Their Lids

Posted on Posted in Healthy Eating, Kitchen, The Flylady

One of the missions we were asked to do with Flylady was to declutter the plastic containers.  It wasn’t until I was looking through some flybaby pictures that I ran into a picture showing one flybaby’s find of 36 extra lids!  I looked at my picture from this mission and I must have 13 extra lids.

So, where do those containers go??  Do they go the same place all the mismatched socks go?  I know where many of my containers have gone.  I have used the plastic containers for water for Lily when she is outside.  I have an aluminum bowl just for water for her but she won’t drink from it.  It has something to do with her reflection and being afraid of her own shadow!  Those bowls of water I run out to her on those hot days are bowls I will use for her water dish for now.  I think these bowls should come with warning labels:  “This bowl may not make it back to its partner the lid.  Please be advised.to throw the lid away now.”

The truth is once that bowl goes outside, it is never going to be used for food again anyway.  I love my dog Lily but I can’t see myself eating out of that bowl she drank water out of so why would I want anyone else?  This counts for the extra lid.

I have also used plastic containers to sort things like office supplies and then placed them in the drawer.  If I like the set up, these containers will stay there.  This is what counts for a few more extra lids.

Some of these containers get a crack in them and won’t hold water, BUT they could hold dry goods.  Why is it then when you make jello, the container you take from the cupboard is the one that won’t hold water?  Face it, no matter how organized you are, that container with the crack in it always seems to say, “Try me, see if I hold water today!”  When you say, “That’s it!  Out to the garbage you go!”  But wait! What about that lid?  It becomes another extra.

What about those plastic containers that got too close to the burner of your stove, oven, or dishwasher?  You might still be able to use them, BUT will the lid fit right?  More extra lids.

What is a person supposed to do?  Be brave and toss, toss, toss those extra lids!  Don’t worry.  In time you will be back to this same situation.  We will have this mission again and you get to do it all over again.  It is like the “Circle of Life” with plastic containers.  Funny isn’t there a “Circle of Life” with socks?
