This is for sure my 3 consecutive day that I have done a workout with Jane Fonda.  I am hoping figuratively speaking we become best buds in the world of exercise.  All I can do is take it one day at a time.  I bought all five of her Prime Time Series and made the decision for variety.  So far I have tried 4 out of the 5 workouts and they have been great for this 53 year old body!

I am not sure where I will go with the blogging part of my experience.  I just know there are many women out there in my situation that the workout videos back then when we were in our 20’s, 30’s and 40’s are making us feel like failures.  I say no more!

I have exercised since my 20’s where I always belonged to a gym.  A few years ago when doctors couldn’t figure out why I would pass out if I overdid anything scared me right into keeping myself calm.  You can only pass out and hit your head so many times.  I have had my quota.  So these past few years I haven’t really exercised until the spring of 2011 where Lily my dog and I would go on walkabouts. Then the winter came and all my hard work fell back.

The spring of 2012 my exercise was more of gardening vegetables and flowers so not many walkabouts but I did lots of landscaping where I hauled 241 bricks from across the street of a building that had been demolished.

I was able to be outside every day last spring, summer and fall because of something new I learned but always in the back of my mind figured what it was as I have had these pass out bouts throughout my life.  It was that I need more electrolytes than most.  My dietian recommended Gatorade 2 Low Calorie or Zero Poweraide and by golly it worked!

Now it is winter and the weight I lost last summer and the shape I got into is no more.  I have gain back the weight and my strength isn’t as strong.  I am going to be forever grateful to the woman that told me about Jane Fonda making DVDs again for the Prime Time of our lives.  I feel hopeful again and am getting a better understanding of this whole process as we age into our 50’s and beyond.  I am thankful I exercised when I was younger as I don’t know what position or shape I would be in.

It has been funny with my dog Lily as I am doing steps side to side and walking in place.  She is half miniature dachsund and half sheltie and boy was she trying to herd me the first few times.  She finally would get past me and try to herd my other dog Frederick who is a maltese and he wasn’t having any of that.  So they barked for part of my workout.  Today wasn’t so much barking from Lily as talking and yawning because it would look like I was beginning to start walking off but I was only walking forward four steps and then back and of course the side to side.  I can only imagine what is going on in her mind.

Today Frederick just watched from the recliner.  I am his 4th owner so maybe in his lifetime someone has done aerobics in the house.

Lastly and most importantly I want to stress to those out there with chronic illness, fibromyalgia like I have, these series of Jane Fonda’s workouts will work for you.  I am sore but in no flare and that is the most exciting news for me as I will take good pain over bad pain any day.  Jane Fonda has had one knee replacement and opposite side hip replacement made out of ceramic and titanium.  She is 75 years old and oh how I would like to look like her at that age.  I am thinking if I could be in that kind of shape by continuing to exercise and finally make it part of my life again, I will be looking forward to my Prime Years.  Now I have something to look forward to and be successful at and that is exercise again.  As I am doing this I am still trying to get some of the steps down and that is why I feel I will continue to Dance Till You FLY! in the world of exercise!

  1. Awesome Marilyn!! You are so smart! I can’t believe Jane Fonda is 75!!! You are an inspiration!! I am hoping to get to my Walk Away the Pounds DVD (7 gentle workouts in 1 DVD for $10). A few more days of work and I will be home with no studying and will do housework. Maybe I can put on my DVD too!! 🙂
