Part One Of Three. Where Do I Start And How Do I Stay Motivated? Before Bedtime Routine

I wanted the picture above to be bright and wake up your senses!  Those have got to be the two most important questions we usually ask when we make the decision to get our home in order.

Flylady calls them babysteps.  There are 31 of them.  Some of you can go sailing right through these steps no problem.  Myself?  I wasn’t one of them.  Did I give up Flylady completely?  No. Why?  Because I learned a long time ago it is more important to use anything that has to do with decluttering your home and organization as a guide.  It would be nice if you follow the recipe and everything turns out.  The problem is we are at all different levels in taking care of our homes.  Situations happen.  There are just too many factors in order for any system to be a cookie cutter style.

I don’t call mine baby steps.  I call it more like putting one foot in front of the other and it is a simple dance of 1-2-3.

There are three routines in a day and I am going to list them to you in the order of MOST importance.  They are:

Before Bedtime Routine
Morning Routine
Afternoon Routine

Even if you could just master the Before Bedtime Routine the rest becomes easier.  Why?  Because you are going to bed knowing what you are going to wear for the next day, having your sink shined to be ready for immediate use in the morning, and putting everything you need on your launch pad.  Usually there is a calendar nearby so that makes it easy to just glance over so there are no surprises.

I used to have wash your face but then I got to thinking, this is a habit that should have already been established.  You know when you were young and your mother said it was time to get ready for bed. You put your pajamas on wash your face, brush your teeth and say your prayers.  So actually we should have this little mini routine down by now, unless we picked up bad habits along the way.

The next blog will be about the Morning Routine.  Right now for me it is more important for me to start my Before Bedtime Routine then to get into the Morning Routine.  But wait!  I haven’t said anything about how to stay motivated!  That will be explained in due time.  For now, think about what I said and be willing to be open to this idea.  You have tried many that haven’t worked, why not take a shot at mine?

  1. OH…SO good Marilyn! Trying to do too much and do it perfectly was my downfall when I tried Flylady years ago! Not this time! I started with the Shiny Sink, and ONLY concentrated on that. But the motivation of that shine made me WANT to do more! My house is looking so much better already!
