It is no secret that one of the hardest things for me to do was to “Get Dressed To Shoes” everyday.  Why on earth do I need to?  I don’t work.  Nobody ever comes and visits.  I am always in pain because of fibromyalgia so I hate clothes that are scratchy just to irritate me more.

Partly because I didn’t feel well and just honest depression I would sometimes stay in a pair of pajamas for three days.  I swore by the third day they would be standing.

Most are not going to believe me and think I have exaggerated this.  I sorry to tell you and embarassed too that I am not.

Then there were the sleep schedules that were different times.  That seemed to be the excuse why no one would stop by.  They never knew if I was sleeping or not.

I had no reason for anything.  I moved to this town of less than 100 in farming country away from my friends from Dallas, Tx.  It was just me and my two cats and dog.  Eventually, I got to know someone who lived in town and we became great friends.  She moved a few years ago and that is how I got more involved with Flylady when I had a computer that would work.

Have I mentioned the clutter yet?  Of course that was a given.  I would work in my pajamas when I could but never seemed to get anywhere.

Fast foward 2010.  I got involved in Facebook and was able to communicate with you all.  I had inherited some money and was able to buy a laptop.  Yes, I have been around Flylady since 2005 but I just wasn’t getting it.

2011 I decided I was going to just concentrate on each Monthly Habit as they came along and build as the year went on.  December 25, 2010 I started shining my sink to get into the practice of it for January.  Well I was committed still not getting dressed to shoes but I was keeping my sink shined.

Then came February.  Declutter 15 Minutes a Day.  I wasn’t doing very well with this one.  I couldn’t spend 15 minutes looking at things to get rid of.  Then came the last two weeks.  I knew March Habit was “Getting Dressed To Shoes.”  If I am having trouble with the decluttering, how was I ever going to pull that one off?  You see, it wasn’t that I didn’t want to Get Dressed To Shoes.  I just didn’t know how to dress for my life I was living.

The last two weeks of February, I concentrated on decluttering.  It wasn’t just anything.  It was my clothes.  I couldn’t do the 15 minutes of Decluttering each day.  My attention span would not hold up.  What I was able to do is pick out 25 items of clothing and put them in a bag and tie it up and directly take out to the blazer.  I was gearing up for the Getting Dressed To Shoes.

One of my blogs I talked about having an Epiphany.  Well as I was decluttering that is exactly what I had!  I created a couple drawers and a section of my closet JUST for FLYing!  Of course it didn’t happen overnight but it certainly did by the end of March!  I made a decision to just designate certain clothes for FLYing.  I started out with picking out 3 outfits and always had 3 options of what to wear and kept adding another outfit each day.  My excuse was I never knew how I was going to wake up.  Some days I really hurt.  Some days not so much so by having 3 outfits ready, one I could choose.

At first I hung them all together and did that for a very long time.  Today I have a couple drawers and a section of closet.  Most of the time my clothes are picked out of the drawer and then I always have a long sleeve jacket of some kind as sometimes I was cold and sometimes hot so had to adjust.

So, is there a moral to the story?  I am not sure.  The one thing I did want you to know that I was the worst of the worst when it came to Getting Dressed To Shoes Hair and Makeup.  I started the habit in March and by day 7, 8, and 9 were the worst for me in this.  So how could I keep this going?  By taking a picture for accountability that led to Daily Photo Mini Blogs only to last for 31 days but ended up 436 Consecutive Days in a Row where I was publishing it for you all because you wanted to hear from me.

Today, I still Get Dressed To Shoes Hair and Makeup.  It has been one of the best things I could have ever done for myself.  My world opened up.  So if you are serious about getting dressed to shoes, create a drawer for FLYing clothes and a section in your closet for FLYing clothes.  February I am going to help you do this.  We are going to focus on our decluttering as clothes to be the priority so when March 1st come around, you will be able to “Get Dressed To Shoes Hair and Make Up and if you can get this down, your world opens up for you!  I am not kidding!

  1. this is a big problem for me Marilyn. I know what you mean about staying in pjs for days! I will try to do better this year since I also have to be more committed to exercise as well. I’ll need shoes to walk on my treadmill!!!

  2. I’m curious what you put on your feet each day. I am doing almost all of the Getting Dressed to Shoes. I shower, brush my teeth, comb my hair, even makeup. I too have fibromyalgia and shoes just hurt my feet. In fact, most days I hate socks too so I have the flip-flop style slippers that I wear everyday. Do you think that I’m not truly flying if I’m not wearing shoes?
